South..what do you think now that I have had time to turn it into a Tutorial for the Academy..?

How to Supercrop an Auto:

What is Supercropping:

Supercropping is a simple..no tools required method of restricting vertical growth on Autoflowers and other plants by BENDING the mainstem.

Why Supercrop:
Most growers use supercroping when they have a low maximum grow height..OR..if they have low light penetration because supercropping realigns the bud sites horizontally.

Supercropping is a technique to restrict vertical growth on Autoflowers by Bending the main stem.
Best performed when the Autoflower has immature bud sites.
This will depend on the cross you have and your Own grow condition.

The main stem is bent just below the height you need..because..as you can See..the head of the plant will Lift a bit from the Initial bend site.

South Syder..."33 Day Dragons! The taller gal. Yup, I crimped her down already."

One week after supercropping you can see the buds starting to realign themselves to the horizontal position and starting to fatten.

South Syder: "40 Day Dragons! I love crimping, or supercropping as the kids call it now. It really boosts yields and fattens buds!"

After the initial mainstem bend..the plant still puts on a bit of vertical growth..which is why we say make the bend Below the height you need the plant to Finish.

Dragons Day 82

The Girls are Naked...pre harvest..and you can plainly see the supercrop bend..and how the Autoflower realigns the bud sites..branches.

Thanks to South Ryder for letting us use his grow thread for this Supercropping Tutorial @ the AFN Autoflower Academy . :toke:

Do you gradually bend it over a few days or all at once? I know when I almost snapped my main stem on my first abb grow when I taped it together it healed nicely but grew tremendously fast almost straight away!

Great question Dark Matter. The answer is the key to crimping any type of canna stem, soft or woody, and eliminates the natural apprehension some have to the possess. It's this apprehension that gave rise to low-stress-training so popular today, but I see no need for it. Simply master this technique and you'll never have to tie things down again, except sometimes to maintain the angle of the crimp.

Simply cushion the of the stem with the meaty part of your forefinger and with the nail of your thumb, having determined the angle you want to bend on, crush the stem! Yup, crush the stem! You'll find the side your thumb is pushing will take the most damage and the cushioned side will be relatively sound. Then, if it doesn't simply fall, and the softer ones do, gently push the stem down. Woody stems may split a little on the cushioned side but the plants laugh it off. The stem will form a knuckle at the bend and shit-tons of fluid will now pass through it. Crimps made in vegetative growth stage will want to straighten the stem over time so you may need to tie them set. I think interrupting apical dominance is why the lateral branches shoot up, and the additional sap flowing through the knuckle significantly increases vigor there.
