:toke: Hi everyone: I would like to talk about Secure Postal Seed Ordering in the UK + other similar systems countries.

I recently had an order go a stray. Basically, the order went missing and I believe it was stolen by a postal worker. It was a cash order to a seed company. The seed company is perfectly sound, but the postal system is very corrupt and tainted. The order was sent “Sign for Post”, which in the UK costs £1.50. There are 2 different types of secure post, and the other type is called “Registered Post”; this cost £5.50.

So what is the problem: Sign for post is not secure at all. The sender places the envelope into the Post Office and it is just placed into the regular postal system. At any point, the envelope can go missing, and it is virtually impossible to know at what point the envelope was stolen. There are, Crooked postal workers that find out that mail to a specific address may contain money, and every now and again, they will thieve an envelope.

On the other hand, Registered post is quite different. When a person hands in a Registered piece of mail, it is passed from one postal operative to another. If the mail goes missing, the postal service will know which operative was in possession of the mail when it went missing. This makes for a safe mail delivery.

So lets some it up.

A Sign for Post for seed order sending with cash in the envelope is totally unsafe.

Registered Post for seed order sending with cash in the envelope is safe.

It will cost just £4.00 per order more, to send the order in a safe manner using Registered Post and, if you want to be 100%, it will cost another £4.00 for the order to be returned in the same way. Better safe then sorry.

Sign for post, Totally Unsafe at £1.50
Registered Post SAFE at just £4.00 extra (£5.50)

Hey Mike thanks for the heads up.
Never had this problem myself and have found just ordinary post often attracts less attention, if sending cash to a seed company try and disguise it not, I hasten to add, in a card of some kind this makes it even more desirable to light finger posties but maybe in a film case or even cd case.

Posties are often light fingered bastards, for some the temptation is just too much, I know 'cause I used to be one but I'm just too honest to filch!

Bummer for your lost cash, hope it wasn't too much but that's not the point, bastards

Not many would think to steal a card/envelope that had "Sorry for your loss" written on it somewhere . Just have to think what WOULD look like it might contain something valuable , and that is what will get pinched .

What about payment by postal order? The post office clerk writes the postal order as if it is a cheque and they sign it. You get a stubb as proof but none of your details will be on it. It costs a tad little more as you pay a small fee but it is useless to anyone other than who it's been made payable to.
