New Grower Best techniques for a complete noob

Im looking to start growing mj and am a bit stuck on getting started I.e. best form of lighting, what to plant in, best strain to grow? Any ideas people they will be much appreciated. I've been told for some 1 as experienced as me grow bags and a 400w hid light is my best bet is this true? Thanx for any help you can all offer

What's your budget?
I like LED, but its expensive
For strains, try some from here automaticseed
The strains on there are from members here and are very good
a 1-2 gallon pot would work good for decent size autos

HID is great if you can control the heat. I personally use T5HO and LED low heat output and decent results. I would start out with some Promix or Sunshine mix, probally the easiest way to get started. As far best strain, depends on what your looking for. Anything from stitch or the breeders here in the seed shop.

ATM my budget is DIY build it yourself. Got enough money to buy a packet of seeds and pay postage but I'm in the process of saving up to get my self sorted. Just looking to get as much advice as I can in the mean time

I've heard a lot about led both good and bad. From what I can make out its a good idea but the technology isn't quite there yet.

There are some pretty good LEDs out there now. Black star and GrowLEDHydro to name a couple. What size space are you working with?

The only downside with LED in my opinion is the price, it gets a lot of hate from people who don't use it or bought cheap ebay units.
A good setup would be a 2x4 tent, 4-6" carbon filter, and a Quantum Bad Boy 8 bulb T5 (Or two 240w Blackstar LED lights)
That would be the easiest to control temps with IMO

Will be building my tent 4'x4' wooden frame and mdf walls painted flat white.

You would need at least a 600w HID for proper coverage. I would drop one of these Bad Boys in that space.
