Dutch Passion Beginner grow - DP Blackberry

A long overdue update on Day 53.

I was out on extended travel, and well, things went from bad to worse. While I was out, one of the ventillators that I incorrectly positioned has done a lot of damage to the plant that already had enough damage to its leaves :wall:. Now, the poor girl's leaves are curled, dry and brown. Dead in other words  ...but it looks like she will pull through, as far as I can tell the buds are fattening up, so the leaf damage may not matter as much as I thought.

A recent change I made was that I managed to get my hands on Density Cal-Mag that TaNg recommended, and got rid of my AN Cal-Mag. Also started to use Density's Silica Pro. I definitely see now how the high N content in the AN Cal-Mag is a bad idea. I was in a catch 22 when I needed to add Cal-Mag for the high powered LEDs, but 4-0-0 combined with the Sensi Bloom's 5-4-8 was just too much. I then lowered the Sensi Bloom to lower the N as both plants started to claw badly, only to get major P deficiency because of it. No other way around it but to use a different brand, Density looks like a really good one so far.

As you can see, the "1st" one on the right has serious damage to its leaves:

My little survivor "1st" one:

"2nd" one, also has some leaf damage, but only from the N-P mess from Cal-Mag. Looks healthier:

Thanks John, indeed they do :smoking:

I'm told by someone that the big leaves only matter during the veg phase for "building up" the plant. Apparently, they don't matter so much once in flowering, because the flower will use nutes directly from the roots, it doesn't need the fan leaves for that. It mainly uses the small leaves in the flower and its surrounding area for photosynthesis. Does anyone know if this is truly the case?

I've always thought the fan leaves play a large part in how the flower will produce - but if this is not the case, I won't worry about the fan leaves too much in the future once in flowering phase.

I need to buy me a book on botanics :coffee2:

In my scrogs the large fan leaves end up mostly under the screen and as soon as they get covered up by the top growth they start to die off. This can happen pretty early in the grow like 35-40 days in. Seems to work pretty well this way.

I've seen that several growers here have clipped off fan leaves once the plants are in flower and the plants don't seem to mind it.

I see...! Thanks guys, that's good info. Sounds like I've been stressing way too much about leaf health in times when it makes no difference. This will make things a lot easier in the future for sure.

Here are a few pictures from day 66. They are in the flushing phase now, ph'd water with AN Flawless Finish.
