Indoor Bahia Blackhead Pheno Hunt

Of the six Bahia I have left outside, I brought the two largest in to flip. It's too cold at night for them so they've been growing slowly the last six weeks.

I took two cuttings of each, in case one of them is THE ONE.

The ones I brought inside are doing exceptionally well. Here's a picture of one I took outside to water. The other one is still in the tent and I didn't get a picture.

These are in the original homemade soil which was heavily augmented with some great compost.

These were up-potted to Buildasoil 3 and Happy Frog, respectively, and are still spending their nights outside:

The two in the middle were transplanted into Buildasoil Recipe 3 and started showing nitrogen deficiency. I had to topdress using Happy Frog fertilizer and the right one is doing quite well. But the one on the left has yet to recover and the leaves are looking really weird-curly and deformed. I will probably cull it, but today I gave it some Rootwise and will wait a few days to decide.

The ones in Happy Frog are more than twice the size they were a couple of weeks ago.

I have never had this problem with Buildasoil before. Because I bought it in Albuquerque during the heatwave, I think it spent some time in a hot warehouse which killed off a lot of the microscopic life. Not everything was killed, because I had a persimilus bloom in another pot I used it in. I guess that's why they recommend adding microbes at transplant. I may drive to Denver and import my own soil next time anyway.

Anyway, there are two on a flowering schedule, one that I could flip today if I had space, and one that should be ready to flip in a week or so.

At this time, none have shown sex.

I culled the unhappy specimen mentioned in the previous post. But in good news, cloning of this strain is easy - 6 days to root!

(Apologies if you saw this post twice. I initially put it in the wrong place.)

Bahia #5 is male:

A beautiful specimen though! I want to run him to get some pollen but don't have the space. Fall came early and I have to move everything indoors at night.

I murdered him a few seconds after taking this picture but kept one of his clones for later. Maybe next summer once I know what I have in the females.

I took cuttings from Bahia 9 and it's going into the tent before lights out today. I topdressed with Craft Blend and Rootwise and watered, and am waiting for it to drip-dry.

I didn't like how the lowers looked on Bahia 3 but am putting it on 12s in a couple of days - as soon as I can take cuttings. This one looks like it's going to be a beast, so it better be female.

10 days from flip, and this gorgeous plant is male. 😭😱 (Bahia 6)

I killed it but am keeping a clone like last time. That leaves three likely females.

I only had two females left after pulling one yesterday that got "sick" not long after being put on a flowering schedule. I have that clone that I'm going to rerun in a couple of weeks, but that ends this thread because you need more than one female to do pheno hunts.

I know I said it was the end. But I had to make an early chop of the Bahia Blackhead pheno 2. She had had one banana, so I removed her to a less suitable location. I still have her clone - it's the only one left - and she's been vegging a couple of weeks. So I took a single cutting and I'm flipping her today.

I had already done some chirocracking on her before taking this picture. Then did some more before taking this one.

She's good smoke and deserves another run. FWIW, I don't care about a single banana. A few seeds here or there don't matter, it's when there are more seeds than flower that I get unhappy.

Since I'm running her again I'm giving her a slightly different name: Bahia Duas.
