I’ve frequently searched for “average yield by pot size” and come across various sites that offer some general info. What I’d like to try, with the help from y’all, is to put together a data-driven answer to this question. I’ll take care of the compiling and posting updated results when I can, all I ask from you is that when you get some time, post the following information to this thread:

Yield, Pot Size, Grow Medium, Light Type, and Strain

The more input the better, and if there isn’t much interest, I’ll let this drop.

Does it matter what kind of plants? Like Photo plants or Auto plants or semi-auto plants?

I just ran mg 25, photo plants modified grapes 25.
6 plants in 5 gallon pots organic homemade DIY soil. They gave me 296 grams of AAA quality flower.
No larf was collected. Only flower.

I'll note the plant type, thanks. Also, what kind of light?

I think when most "new" growers start out they all search the same thing. I know I did. What I've found with my own grows is that I consistently yield right around an ounce from .75-1 gallon pots/bags. I had one outlier that I got 57 grams from. I tried a 2 gallon bag last round to see if I could get 2 ounces but the plant ended up being a trash pheno of a pretty popular strain. My next round I'm running 4 5 gallon bags for the first time. My goal is to hit a pound in my 32x32 tent. My whole method has changed, except the soil I'll be using.

This doesn’t answer your question, but maybe it offers some perspective. I don’t really think about pot size as the main variable that relates to yield. I think of yields more as a factor of space and light. Of course you need to select the right size pot and number of plants to fill your space appropriately, but that is more a question of genetics than anything else. A bigger pot can grow a bigger plant to a point, but a fast flowering mostly indica hybrid will only benefit so much from a bigger pot. Of course pot size does have an impact on yield, but is not the primary factor in determining yield.

To answer your question a bit more directly, in my tents that both have the same light, yields on my last 4 grows were:

3 x 3 tents with 315 watt Sunsystem CMH w/Phillips bulbs grown canna coco:
10 gallon - 15.4 oz Mephisto Forum Stomper x Samsquanch freebie
3 x 3 gallon Mephisto double grape 20 oz total (7 oz from one plant 6.5 oz each from the other two)

Same light and tent with Promix HP and Biocanna nutrients:
3 x 3 gallon Mephisto double grape 10 oz total (a little over 3 per plant)
3 x 2 gallon Mephisto Skywalker 6.5 oz total (just over 2 oz per plant)
I think I could do better with the Biocanna now, I hadn’t been growing for a couple years, and was just transitioning to auto-flowers. I overfeed and stunted them a bit on both grows, but definitely worse on the first one in 2 gallon pots.

Now that I have found my footing again and switched to coco, I expect I will continue to get similar yields.

Good luck

You’re pretty much confirming what I’ve seen with your data. A baseline for yield vs pot size is pretty safe to say 1 oz per gallon. When you add grower skill and environmental variables that can go up significantly.
