Grow Mediums Auto’s on Auto-Pilot

The Black Soil i use is a bagged soil that's a mix of topsoil, and composted materials, and a little black peat. I mix it with 30% coco coir. Then its a good base for either organics or feeding via Megacrop, etc. You can run higher PH this way and pretty much eliminate PH issues. I PH the Mega to 6.5 and have run this way for three grows now, not even one little sign of PH related problems. And the soil not only buffers, it retains nutrients better than any medium. plants not in auto pots are being feed only twice a week with great results.

I use an organic top soil, mixed with 1 part each by volume of soil, compost, and perlite. Not sure what @pop22 is using but it’s a mixture of 70/30 soil/coco. The important thing is that you are using some form of dirt to help buffer those nutrients.

The same mix is in my raised beds. I then spread a couple pounds of dry organic nutrient, like doctor Earth and a couple cups of blood meal. I then mulched with a couple cubic feet of horse manure compost. I'm very pleased with the results!

Just for giggles, I've started feeding raised bed [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG] with Megacrop as I did nothing but and compost to it this year and I had huge plants in it last year that likely sucked up most of the nutrients lol.

Is the soil base you're using in the autopots, for example with MC or if mixing nutes for the res, a nutrient enriched mix or inert, such as promix?

I was thoroughly gutted last week when I had to destroy all of my outdoor auto's (PHA, AHA and AK47) I did manage to get a couple branches of AK hung but bud rot got all of my flowers. Easily a 14 ounce loss. I am buying a larger tent and sticking to indoor growing. I want to drop beans asap but need to set up my pots correctly.

PS I suspect my root blowouts may be related to using both hydroguard and voodoo juice together?? Not sure but I am going to go with the soil/coco/perlite mix or something close to what you gents are using. Thanks a million.

Still have my BBA which is ripening and a huge pineapple photo in the garden outside that should do ok with a normal or dry fall.

I use a soil mix called Black Soil. A regular potting mix will work also, I ad 30% coco. I've used a mix with organic nutrients added and then later ran Megacrop. Most of the soil I'm using now is that same soil and on its fourth grow. No further organic nutrient have been added since the first grow.
I did have to add more soil to filled the pots to full, but that's it. I just cut out the stump and replant. I plant to empty the pots after this grow and blend a little fresh soil and coco in, but I will continue to reuse the soil. soil doesn't wear out but over time of course, the organic mater breaks down, some is consumed by the plant etc. I'm convinced however that you really never need to replace your soil!

I don't think the bacterial agents you are using would cause problems. pm me a link I'll see if I can add anything useful diagnostically.

I take an organic garden soil, not potting soil, I mix it with equal parts by volume compost and perlite. My compost is usually a mix of cow, horse, and sheep. I like to use a coarse sized perlite which I source from a greenhouse store. So there are no added nutrients in the mix itself if you don’t count the compost.

I don’t have the experience that pop has and was taking my lead from him. I decided to go with my soil mix that I use in my veggie garden. As far as I’m concerned any decent soil mix will do what we are aiming for and that’s buffering the pH. So far it seems to be working in my current grows inside and out using Mega Crop with their calmag, Sugar candy, and Bud Explosion.

Thanks gents.
I cannot find "black soil" as a name or brand name. In fact locating un-enriched or inert soiless media is not that easy.
I am not ready for nutes in the pot and in the res, yet.
I am going to just grab a bale of pro mix BX and a big bag of perlite, then mix in a 20-30% coco.
Our local farm supply has really upped their game as far as ganja grow supplies and they carry FF and a few other popular potting/grow soils.
I know they have pro mix and, it's a half mile upstreet.

Thanks again. My buddy here in state who has 12 outdoor photo's growing, just found rot on his first plant starting to flower. The humidity in the northeast has been unreal.

I have at least one strain of autoflower that is trying to rot on me. I finally brought those two plants inside and into a lower humidity in an attempt to stop the mold, seems to be working so far. My photos are just in preflower so no problem there yet. The other two auto strains I have outside are doing okay so far. One being Fastbuds Fastberry and the another doing even better is Bomb Seeds Berry Bomb. Both are showing no signs of bud rot or mold so far. My location at 41° latitude has been wet for the last three weeks, just constant rain. Last night at 11pm it was 90% humidity outside. I’m tempted to run an extension cord out to the greenhouse and putting a turbo fan out there to keep the air moving. Paranoia always creeps in whenever I do anything in the greenhouse that might draw attention to it. I rarely have company out here in the country but worry about those noisy utility workers reading meters and wondering why there is an extension cord running across the yard.

Forgot to mention, any decent garden soil should work as a base. I was at Wally World last night and they had their 1 cubic foot of organic garden soil on clearance for $2 a bag. They are dumping their big bags of dirt now that we are into August.

That will work fine! And the organic nutes I started with are not needed, I just had a batch left over so in the pot it went lol!
any soil mix has enough nutrient value the get your plants to the point you turn on the rest, for mr around day 17-20. Because soil holds nutrients better than other mediums you can precharge with a moderate dose of nutrient or feed the for the first time around day 14.
