I have a little comment about watering very dry containers: (AND earth)
In my experience MOST of the water just runs off,EVEN if
you water slowly,If it´s very dry.

But i have had exellent results with this method :
First,water very very little & SLOW with some mild liquid soap
solution ( Zalo, man, Sunlight! )

just a small drop in a 1.5 L bottle
will do.. Obviously the soap breaks down some resistance in the
water - surface.. or something - that makes the
water absorb quite some much more
Cannot remember the word in english…
Use your time- maybe 10 minutes for a bottle.
Important;make the solution spread out as even as possible...

Scratching up the surface a bit helps absorbing the water!

... . . . Then water as usual - slowly of course!
In my experience this weak soap-mix will not
hurt the plants.

Guess you knew about this already…
but still, it´s a neat trick!
