Grow Mediums Autopot & Autoflower question

I, as do several other growers, have stopped using perlite, hydroton, or any other added product and just use straight coco with great success. Yes autopots recommends these things, but we were the one using them for cannabis, they were growing vegetables.

i talked to jason ceo of autopots on the phone from the UK and he said for cannabis he recommends peat based medium over coco, for newbies anyway. Also corresponded with another high level guy who obviously wasnt growing veggies. But most great grows I've seen are 100% coco. But i kind of like a 50 50 myself right now. I went from all coco, to partial coco, to 50/50 coco/peat and its my best grow so far.

Got to love all the different options one has for growing. Never a dull moment. And you can try and copy someones technique all you want, but there are still variables.

Great of you to net out the basics from Hansbricks for the OP. Kudo's man.

My problem with peat is that it is unsustainable, once all the peat is gone it’s gone. Coconuts grow a lot faster than peat will ever develop. Also, I always had issues with peat throwing off my pH so that was another reason I stopped using it. I never got to talk to Jason at the U.K. store so I can’t say about him, but when we first started with autopots and tried to get info out of the USA store, they would shut you down as soon as you mentioned any references to cannabis. This really did not sit well with me and while I still use their products, I don’t expect any help from them.

I agree with you about those variables, the smallest thing can cause a complete grow to be thrown off and don’t we growers always seem to be trying new things out like autocobs, which then require another rethink about how we grow. When I first started with autopots, I of course copied the master Hans, and from that developed my own strategies for growing in them. First time trying photos in them this time and I’m excited to see the results.
