Day 43 : What have I learned so far ?
To be fair and in the spirit of honesty, I did a good bit of research coming in. Time flies - and I've loved Mary Jane for 20 years now. I knew about Sativa and Indicas, etc and considered myself really well informed. I had no idea I had basically just scratched the surface. They really did turn a "weed" into a science ! It sure does have a ton of amazing properties for being just a "weed" -
So far I have learned a few pearls. First and foremost, Fungus gnats are bastards, but they only eat dead plant material, and they're super easy to kill by putting sand, aquarium gravel, or a similar medium on the top of the soil. It suffocates their larva.
These plants
love love love soil aeration. The absolute worst time to stress one is when they are babies - from germination to early veg. The veg stage is really important as it's a major variable with respect to the ultimate yield. Heat stress prevents proper plant stretching. If you have a good sized pot, decent growing medium, Light, good temps, and air - and make it through germination and veg incident free, you could be set up for a good sized yield. There is such a thing as too much air/wind. My Amnesia plant literally hugged itself for 2 weeks because I had too much wind blowing on it. I stunted its growth. The window that a plant grows good strong THC is small, and it breaks down into CBD and worse if you don't get to it at the right time.
Finally, the last two thing I have learned so far are as follows. Pistils give way to swollen Calyx - and they look a little like a male pollen sac at first glance.
Last but not least - growing pot is like doing jail time. If you scratch off the days, each and every one, one at a time - it is going to seem like an eternity waiting on the big day.
