Indoor Area 51 LED lights... any good?

They don't give a lot of specs on it beyond that it's using 3 watt LEDs. Chances are it's one of the Chinese models that are being offered through a variety of resellers. Not to say that is necessarily bad as even the Blackstars many of use are using are Chinese built. I would suggest at least trying to find out what lense angle they are using, the actual watts it is outputting, and the frequency of their LEDs. Also, does it have UV and IR. Some early models didn't but I would expect this one to have them.

My local hydro shop has just stocked area 51 leds. here is the right up that they have on them...

AREA 51 LED Grow Light (312W)

LED Grow lights have come a long way in the past few years and the technologyhas improved beyond recognition.

The PAR of LEDs is better for the plants than HID, it has a wider spectrum, produces no infra-red (harmful to the plant) and can produce as much "usable" light as a HID 3 to 4 x more powerful in wattage terms.

Outcome depends on correct usage, LED's do not work in the same way as HPS or even a CFL. We recommend 2 x 234w AREA 51 7:1:1 colour spectrum shades per 1M2 of growing area. This gives sufficient uMOL to produce good yields.
For best results, ise in an area that has heat issues (>1.8m high tents, loft spaces etc), in this context we expect LED yields to exceed those of an equivalent HPS or CFL.
1. Up to 2m penetration of usable light
2. Perfect for hot spaces, or wherever ventilation is an issue
3. No lamp changes
4. Full UK support
-"AREA 51" LEDs use superior 660nm Red LEDs inlike many cheaper alternatives
-"AREA 51 LED" lights come with FULL UK dealer support
-"AREA 51" lights are modular and can easily be fixed locally
-LEDs do not contain many of the harmful compounds like HID lamps
-6-year life expectancy for the lamps
Details:
Wattage: 312W
Size: 482 x 315 x 70
LEDs Per Shade: 104 PCS 3W
7 colour LED spectrum

hope that helps abit..

What was the price on that 312w lamp? which website did you find it on mate? The 234 I found seems to be an older model as its not listed on the area51 website and is 78x3w diodes so id only expect it to draw perhaps 160w? Id love to get something drawing around the 300 watt mark but a penetrator is out of my price range for now... :(

£375 instore price m8. thats rteally good price if they are on par with the blackstars.

im from uk if you didnt realise

see that listing is just confusing, its titled 312 watts then in the description it talks about recommending 2 x 234w models for 1mx1m sized grows... 312 watts would suggest 104 leds vs the 78 used on the 234 but id guess at it only drawing around 200 watts of power. What gives grrr. Wish LED manufacturers/resellers would be clearer in what they are actually selling. Im UK based too mate :)
