I thought about it but with my reflux still its like 12 hours to run 10 gallons of 10% wine. long time to watch for a gallon of top shelf drink. I get a gallon of methanol for 7.99 at the local paint store for washing trim... and as I just did a seed run I have close to a lb of mangled buds and dust from busting seed out. I wish there was an easy way to make qwiso into shatter that shit sells here for 50-70$ gram. An easy bake vacuum oven lol Some nice ones on ebay but no shipping to canada.

I use to always do a pre stripping run, where i would run max output then collect the distillate from a couple batches then do a slower reflux run to get the quality, those typically from start to finish for 5 gallons would take 2-3hrs from setup to cleaned and disassembled per run, wasn't too bad.

The disadvantage to methanol that i have found out is its a higher polar solvent compared to ethanol, so when doing frozen QW with it, it actually pulls out more of the resins and waxes in comparison, or at least with what im learning, so im gonna have to brew another rum batch shortly and use some for extraction on some less desirable bud.

Most people would squirm with the mention of methanol due to the toxicity of it, but as home distillers we know all about it and how to remove it easily and that any left over if any are negligible and at most with a Very Large portion of extract might be equal to a beer in methanol concentration.

Yeah 3 hour / 5 gallons stripping runs then a reflux run is slow too, that's why I went reflux "one run and done". When I used a pot still I ran fast stripping runs then ran a slow drip for cuts. I do 2 runs a year now and that allows me to store some long term. Never made rum just neutral spirits and then add botanicals as wanted.

Methanol is toxic to breath or drink. Ethanol from my research aka reading uni studies online say it has very similar in properties as far as extraction of polar and nonpolar materials to methanol. Methanol does produce the highest levels of thca in finished extracts from the studies I have seen. You can do faster washes leaving nill for second wash. The safety key is to flash it or any solvent off at the end of your process. I use a torch but pre heating the oven to 200 then turning it off and placing the plate into 200°f for 5 minutes will flash remaining solvents rendering the extract brittle and very shatter like while decarboxylating.

Feeling better today . Nasty business kidney stones but I'm sure it's small potatoes compared to what some of you must be enduring. Pain unfortunatly is the messenger telling us something is wrong and needs attention . I'm not done with the medical proffesion yet seems they need somebody to practise on and for now it's me . In the meantime is there a plumber in the house ?? Looks like I have a project in front of me kidney stones or not .
