Very nice, Archie!. In fact it is inspiring.
@archie gemmill I have a question that you and @Maria Sanchez might be able to answer. Not exactly micro, but related.
My closet is almost ready, (really this time) My brilliant doc retired, and until I find another one I will stay within the 4 plant limit.
What size pots would maximize the space, assuming up to 4 indica (usualy) autos?
- 31x40 inches
- about 6 to 7 square feet of actual growing area, lights up to 7 feet high.
- in 70%dirt/coco under a choice of 60, 240, or 300 actual watts of COB. (5x 100w at 60%)
Hey there @VitaMan!
My present thinking about pot size is to really try to maximize it, fill that space, and don't leave too much empty.
You have about 6 sq ft of space and want max of 4 plants, would give 1.5 sq ft of space per plant.
Not sure what shape your 6 sq ft is, like square area or rectangular or whatever.
But 1.5 sq ft of surface area its best to use square shaped pots, because they pack / fill the space better.
(Round one's leave weird crescent shaped corners that can't be filled....)
You could in theory have monster huge pots in there.
A 8 gallon square pot is about 15" sq across the sides.
Which could be overkill for autos, unless you've got long slow 12 week hybrid or sati-dom plants.
Though usually bigger pots means they finish slower.
Anyway, 8 gal would be theoretical maximum, but could do 5 gallon more practical.
That's about 12" sides across the top.
Do either 240W or 300W. If you have 5 actual COBs at max 100W each, then do a COB per plant, adjust Wattage as needed.
Let's say 4 plants / pots, at 5 gallon ( = 19L each ) and 50W-100W plant, over 6 sq ft = 0.55 m2...
Might be able to pull 200g-300g total, 50-70g / plant.
Overall size / area may be limiting factor there.
On second thought, as it's only 6 sq ft, 4 x 5 gal will be too much, haha.
Maybe more like 4 x 3 gal.
Let them grow straight up, no topping or fimming or whatever.
You've got 7' head space, so use it.
May get some laffy popcorn down bottom, but whatever.
