Grow Mediums Aquaponics with f6'!

Aaaaaand it's Wednesday!

Not much going on.. little wing being small but doing her thing!

Another SD popped up to say hello! Not sure what I'm going to do with it! Maybe outside.. hmmm

The fish are eating little wings roots which I find amusing haha!

Had I known that she would be so small I would have done 4! She is just as likely to rocket off and crowd out the micro tent but we will see!

That is cool. So, since I know shit all nothing about aquaponics... Do you have to do a "res change" on the fish tank once in awhile, or do the fish keep the water in check for the entire grow?

Thanks for the question! Hey, so I'm no guru and the science is actually easy to follow!

Keeping an aquarium is a job, I mean you shouldn't be vain enough to keep a living thing without basic care. Just saying! Aquaponic is a subset never likely to be relevant to canna..

It's a bubble basket in the top of a fishtank, lol it works I guess

(this is a bonsai, next time a few changes to basket and bubbler!)

The aquarium environment gets better with age, a Canna plant can strip huge amounts of available N and everything else out of a "hot" fishtank/pond environment!

It is pretty amazing to see if you watch (using test kit and eyes I guess!)

Lack of trace items and excess N means light foliage, light and fluffy buds unfortunately and very difficult to compensate for.. trust me, I'm trying!

Cool, so because of the need to house SD [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG] I ended up going with a rectangular pot that happens to fit (after a bit of cutting with chicken shears!)

It's not open to the tank at all but fits between the strengthening braces.

A mix of water holding crystals, seasol planter gel (same thing with ferts in it) and hydrotron!

Wierd shit...

I'll keep sowing in the gel stuff until I get a male!

Meanwhile! Little wing is either stunted out by the aquaponic environment or my basic airstone under hydrotron basket not doing the business!

I did full rdwc in this tank and it worked with a few issues, but I'm after seeds and crosses here not full bud action!

Regardless, the main recirc aquaponic basket will get a reworking next time.

Because of the high pH and it seems so buffered I can't bring it down I will be doing a major deep clean of the fishtank.

There is diotmacious earth in my tank gravel and I'm pretty sure that's what's pushing my pH up so much.

Otherwise it's all good.. moar fun soon haha!

Well idle hands!

Time to deep clean and address the pH..

Perspective.. this tank is about 160L and the pond filter is rated to about 12k Litres.. just happened to be as cheap as more compact models, I do have a smaller one I use in the main hydro tent which was more expensive but fitted better.. Anyhoo..

That's what the inside looks like, there is a sump with bio balls. It all does it's thing to turn pond/aquarium turds and scum to N

Having a big bio press means I don't need to clean the tank often if at all.

Only reason I'm doing it is because the pH is a bit to insistent, I don't like my systems to dictate to me ;)

So, with a clean like this I lose most of my good bacteria that convert amonia and nitrite. I've ditched my gravel and replaced with hydrotron lol some still floating!

I had diotmacious earth in with the gravel, probably ok for the tank, maybe not so great for pH.

All ornaments are in quarantine! Again testing for neutrality, fish will be pissed but shit happens!

Ok, better finish the job!

Post 1 of 2!
