Indoor Appletizer

I was wrong about no growth. The growth is just changing. Its sugar leafs were way bigger today.

I went through and did defoliation. I did a thing. I’m not sure if it’s gonna be good or bad but I did it. I didn’t want to just keep removing all the fan leaves even though they were blocking out the lower Bud sites so I removed six of the seven points on a lot of upper leaves that were blocking light that way I preserve some photosynthesis, but I’m also letting much more light through to the lower sites.. you can see in the second image towards the left how the fan leaves are cut into just a single leaflet.

My goal was to boost light to the sugar leaves as early as possible so that they can grow out as much as possible. They’re definitely bigger today. And I noticed it’s starting to put on some trichromes. Maybe some faint scents starting to emerge.

I forgot to note, on the runt I noticed it’s been stretching and didn’t really go into bloom. So I started pulling off the flowers and the tertiary growth as it gets taller. I’m just gonna keep doing that and see how far I can take it

Cutting the leaves down works, i do it when i scrog as things get really crowded, but i dont remove full fingers, just cut the main three to five in half, like how you trim back leaves when taking clones

Is it known/proven or your presumption that such defoliation and boosting of light to the sugars leaves is overall productive/advantageous for our purposes (bud potency, quality, yield)? Are sugar leaves (say per surface area) actually more productive than fan leaves?

Good question. I dont know. My guess says the leaves benefit most whats closest to them. My goal is to maximize photosynthesis directly at bud sites without decreasing overall surface area So i left the lower leaves that werent blocking light.

Idk do you know the answers to your questions?

Oh you cut the fingertips off? Ive nevrr cloned so im guessing. If so, thats an idea to think about. Wouldnt they pretty heftily block light still? Or do you not care if light is blocked to lower sites?

My background in biology tells me theres different epigenetics in regards to sugar vs regular leaf. And it’s very likely that the sugar leaves have different enzymes and different hormones that are responsible for different things in the plant. Likely Bud development.

No i cut them to let light thru and help with airflow. I do that when completely removing the leaves will do more harm than good

Got my first whiff of terps today. The plant under the ac infinity light has more trichrome development at this stage than the mars hydro plant. Both have seriously slowed growth of fan leaves and sugar leafs/trichromes are coming in.

The mars hydro plant looks an odd green color, as if its not getting enough light. Ppfd is high though

I think ill move the large Hydro light further way. Perhaps it’s too much light

Edit: there’s no difference between the upper and lower leaves so I’m thinking it’s actually not the light. I remember that a couple days ago I had to open the shoots because when they grow, the leaves don’t open. I manually opened them because they were stuck. So thryre lighter becaude they are recently getting light
