Mephisto Genetics Any rosin aficionados out there in Mephistoville?

i just thought the yields from even a good yielding flower was poor,so i pressed some trichs.
:pighug:
Not true. Some flower yield very well. But if you are trying to compare pressing flower vs Trichs...of course flower will yield less. I noticed you didn't have a clamp in your thread. If you tried to press flower without a clamp the yield will be bad...really bad.

Unfortunately you are wrong. Rosin is more than just melted Trichs and a visibly sparklier bud does not always mean better yield. Without a clamp you will not yield well regardless of what you are pressing. A big expensive press is not needed, but a clamp is needed for your homemade rosin making. In fact I prefer my clamp vs my expensive press. With Rosin making some buds will squish very well. Some Strains won't yield shit. I have had some strains yield very very well with very small amounts. And others that you could use 3x the flower and still yield less. Lots of factors with Rosin making, but if a strain doesn't yield well after a few tries it won't ever. Some Strains like CDLC are very potent, but won't press well. Don't waste your time, effort, and flower.

U ever used a 20 ton press and good platens
Here is some Fastberry at 230°f. Gonna play with it and see what different temps give. This was odd some was wax/paste like and some was like normal rosin.

Looks so good. Crystal rosin.

I have used some very expensive presses, 20 ton is overkill. Also, many people such as myself prefer to press fresh nugs (3 days drying is perfect), The Quality is superb. If pressing buds, there is a small window of opportunity to get the best flavors. However many times the buds are still moist, so you must ease into the press. Very slowly adding more pressure to let moisture expell. You can hear the difference between steam and Rosin. Also, you can waste a lot of material making Rosin. Something as simple as the amount of bud used. More is not always better. I suggest starting small and working your way up to find what size is best for your needs. My brother makes too big of balls and wastes a lot more than I do. I also prefer to press my pucks TWICE. The first press is for maximum quality, at a lower temp. The second press is slightly higher temps.

For personal use I like my hand clamp/Iron. But if you are trying to press Rosin on a larger scale I would invest in a larger press. Rosin making is labor intensive. For commercial you would definitely not want to press things twice, to cut down on labor. Do realize that there is a point of diminishing returns.

I only put $310 usd for my pug & play and press. Not bad at all 6 ton press is more than adequate. I use to use a straightener they work and can make some nice rosin, but after using my press it is worth every penny spent. I see some people pressing 2-3 times with same puck, I only need to press once. There is very little left if any left after 1 press don't think it would be worth it. So you don't have to spend $1000+ on 1 to have a nice press. In the end its up to you if its worth the money, I used Xmass money to buy so didn't really cost me anything like a gift. If you don't want to use rosin much then use a straightener, but once you go rosin you won't go back lol.
Good points. $310 would be the most anyone needs to spend for personal use. 6 Ton is plenty.

Am I new to this thread? I have a DIY 6 ton rosin press I built for less than $300 including my pre-presses. There is a link in my signature to show you how to build your own. I press 3g flower pucks on my 3x4 plates with yields ranging from 9% to 16% on the first press @ 195°F 2 minutes and then press two or three pucks together for a second pressing to get about 5% more with a 3 minute press at the same temperature. Yield varies a lot from strain to strain. On occasion when I have fresh buds (just barely dry) to press I use 185°F for 1:30 minutes to get the most flavorful rosin but it is at a cost in yield which will be lower than using a higher temperature. I only use this rosing to vape. All of the other rosin I make goes into chocolate bars and truly the flavors are outstanding even with the higher pressing temperatures.

Yes I have. I have tried many many combinations of size, heat, press time etc. The biggest factor is the strain/buds; they are either good yielders or not. Remember I am pressing flower and 21% overall return is not bad. I have actually stopped worrying about the yield. I am awash in bud and have a closet full just waiting to be squished. A new crop will be ready in a month.

I don't weigh mine anymore either, only for edibles. My point is, you can only press "X" amount of Rosin out of a bud. My travel iron and clamp yields just as well as a 6 ton press. But I do less per squish, so more labor. I would spend up to $300 for a nice press, if it reduced labor and didn't take up a ton of space. But anything more than that is just not worth it to me. I run butane for the strains that don't press well.

I think 3g puck are just right. I can get 2-3 days off of a 3g puck before I need to press more. I have done up to 6g pucks and not as efficient as 3.
