I haven't been doing this long enough to tell for sure, but I'm guessing at least a couple weeks. The problem is that some strains seem to finish the last stage of ripening pretty quickly after seeming to take their time, others seem to take their bloody time until you just about give up on them...

As long as you have lots of white pistils, you are likely a week or more out. Once nearly all the pistils have ambered and curled, you need to be monitoring the trichomes on the calyxes to check ripeness. Keep in mind that the amount of ambering varies a lot among auto strains. Your best bet is to check other grows of the same strain (preferably from the same breeder) to see how it behaved for other growers.

I invested in a usb microscope so I could actually look at the trichomes and have some idea of what's going on. My eye sight is too bad to try and use phone zoom or read the plant. It's quite nice to be able to take high quality pictures up close, plus gadgets are fun. Might be worth it if you are growing steadily and would like to really nail down harvest times.

If I didn't already have a macro still camera setup, that is what I would use. They work best, same as my setup, when mounted on a support to keep them still. At the magnification needed, movement of the camera can be a pain.

Bought a cheap led magnify lense still can’t tell trichs. When the buds get full and rock hard I know I’m close or ready at least that’s how my mind works

I've got a uab microscope and with an otg cable it plugs into my phone it was about 15 quid of amazon and its a lot easier for checking trichomes than a loupe so maybe get one of those and they look very close to finished but depending on what type of high you like its the only way to see with them for sure

First and last look almost there. Middle picture still has a couple of weeks to go.
But as @St. Tom said. A USB microscope with a OTG cable is the way to go mate. Plus it gives you the satisfaction in creating trichome p0rn
