Funny you should ask. That is a answer I haven't discovered yet. First time I tried it I measured exactly 50/50 verm/perlite then added 10% wormcastings. Worked like a charm. Just primed the pot from the top over a period of days to a week. Then I tried again here recently. Haphazardly mixed my soiless DRY!!! I wanted to see how long it took to saturate, but it never really would. I started watering a little bit from the top like usual and something just wasn't right. I decided to prime the pot like I did my rooted clones. It was all downhill after that. I decided to transplant and thanks to the air pot I could see what happened. Everything I was giving from the top wasn't penatrating thru the first 1/4 of the pot and wasn't very wet in the bottom. Half the pot dry in the center. What I believe happened was when I mixed the mix and put it in the pot the perlite went to the bottom and verm went to the top. Or I just plum effed up the mix. Anyways I hope to be growing only wicking eventually. Using a autopot valvle(s). I know it works great just need to pay attention to details and get some money.
The smartpot autopot combo I hand watered from the top mostly. The smart pot would catch the water from the fountain effect. When I would feed I would put half a gallon of nutes in a bucket set the smart pot in it, after a few minutes I would add the other half gallon.
I'll rig up another something soon. Very soon
