How about if you insert silicone airline in the holes, 2-3 cm, cut at a 45 degree angle to prevent run-off through the airline?

Corgy, do you have an actual point to make by offering up a technique that would end up costing 5 times the amount
of an airpot in labor and materials, or are you just picking at scabs? Sometimes being the thorn is just being a thorn.

Hello everyone,

Short question about Air-Pots.

I am currently using the Superroot Airpots (very good ones) --> pic below

However, the guy at the hydrostore said that this one is better --> pic below
His arguments: Same idea same holes, cheaper not having to deal with the annoying taking apart etc.

Does anyone use these? Would like to hear some feedback.

This is the picture of root system in false airpot as from your picture. It works yes, but works as ordinary pot and not as airpot. As you can see these holes do not air prune roots. Nice try but not effective.

Unfortunatelly I do not have picture of airpot roots to show you the difference between two root systems, visible on the very first sight. Only real airpot works as airpot and is very, very effective when you push watering and feeding. If you do not push and go with moderate watering, there will be no difference between airpot and ordinary pot. If you underwater a little bit, airpot might yield even less as ordinary one.

Question to all; So all things being equal between two grows apart from pot types, what's the guesstimates on improved yield % then?!

I've done side by side comparisons with pots not drilled with holes and pots drilled with holes; whether they are as effective as air pots, I cannot say as I've never grown with them (air pots.) My initial response would be no, not as effective. However, in my own observations over 2+ years of growing with them now, there is a night and day difference between how fast the pots dry out (using soil) compared to a non-drilled pot, which in turn can mean more watering/feeding, which some people view as a bonus.

Air pruning happens naturally when roots are exposed to air in the absence of high humidity.

Personally I think there's some degree of air pruning going on based on how my plant roots look when I pull them out, but I would also say there is no root shaping like you get with the jutting/angled structure of the air pots. Agree to disagree I guess. I have a few plants finishing up, I'll try to get some pictures of the root mass when they are finished to compare if you fellas would like.

Even 50% but it isnt automatic. One improves yield only with serious and proper watering.

Airpot does not bring better yield in all circumstances, it is meant for heavy watering/feeding. If you do not do that properly, you might see losses also.

So, airpot might be very effective, but not for everyone. If you keep watering the same way as you did with your ordinary pots you will see no difference.

I don't know if this'll be very good for illustration purposes but here's a pic I took of the roots of my Durban Poison auto that I grew in a one liter air-pot seed to harvest.

You can see the roots are pretty evenly distributed everywhere. The only thicket of roots you see is there because the roots grew around the Blumat clay cone that maintained constant moisture.

I'm certainly improving my nutrients alongside.Push all nutes longer and harder.

I planned to water as I do now, flood it with about 20% run through whenever its dry to my first knuckle. I assume that's fine for air-pots.

yea the guy in the store is pulling your pisser.. the cone shape of the Airpot is what makes them work so well, as the roots are forced to grow out and air prune themselves..
