If you intend to use Promix, then you aren't using soil, you are using a soilless mix. It may look like soil but it isn't. I have used Promix for more years than I like to recall, lol, and the ph should start around 5.6ish in seedling and vegetative stage and allowed to rise slowly to 6.3ish in flower stage. Some variation won't hurt but I wouldn't even consider anything above 6.5 throughout the entire grow.

Just the two cents from a Promix user.
And i appreciate your input. I know promix is soil less. But when i started searching all this out i was un aware of promix. Its just lately i learned of it, and decided to run with it. My question still is pertinent. With the pH perfect nutrients i will still have to adjust... even in promix. But anyway, how do you like the promix?? Obviously you are happy with it having used it so long lol... but would love the feedback.,. Im going to purchase tomorrow.. im a single parent and have had to scrimp and save the whole process.

Promix is top quality. I have ever grown in TLO, or supersoil, as some like to refer to it by. I have grown in hydro and hempy style. Promix is by far the easiest to use with the best results for a beginner. Even for advanced users, it is hard to beat for returns on the least amount of work which is why I use it a lot. It is a very forgiving medium with very little hassle. Out of the bag, it is going to be around 6.6 and you will want to water it with 5.3 the first couple of times, after that you can generally set it at 5.8 and run with it.

I will be completely honest, I have never used AN for personal reasons. I think they are an overpriced scam that preys on newcomers to the craft. There are a lot of nutrients out there that are much more cost effective. Regardless of opinion, yes, I can guarantee you are going to have to ph your solution. If you use rainwater, RO or distilled it won't be as bad but if you use tap water there is no way around it. Tap water has too many buffers in it and will raise your ph no matter what nutrients you use.

Hope that helps bro and best of luck with the grow. With you researching ahead of time I am sure you will do great.

Thanks. Very appreciated. Especially from an experienced point of view. I've heard a lot of good reviews about AN, but I can totally understand your view point. I don't believe a good deal of their products are necessary. And do prey on newbies such as myself. Ive seriously decided to keep it simple. Im not gonna go with all the bells and whistles. Going to run with the base nutrients and have some calmag on deck. Atleast til i have a grow or two under my belt. Then i can add some other products possibly. And see if they are worth it. As I've heard many say all the fancy extra enhancers truly dont make a difference. Also thanks for the pH tip with the promix. I hear so many conflicting things so much. But, thats actually helped me to sort out b.s much faster. Yours advice seems straight up. So will take into real consideration. Im so ready to just get started. Lol. Especially since i have no meds til i can make work lol. But im so in love with growing already. And i just know once i get started a lot of what ive learned will make much more sense. Im going to do a journel. That way i can benefit from the experience out here. Peace and respect..

Hey bro, you are more than welcome. I wish someone would have taken then rime with me when I started. BTW, don't take my work on Promix pH, you can go to their website and they will tell you the same thing.

I too really appreciate this post, as I stumbled upon it while doing a search for "what nutes, any nutes, whose nutes I should use..." and I've been thinking what @fluffhead is thinking... First grow, just roll with the bare minimum and forget the fancy stuff. I mean how am I supposed to get the basic N-P-K and pH right, watering, etc on my first grow AND add in all sorts of extra ingredients while maintaining the plant overall, seems like I'd be better off keeping it simple first. Even if it grew "fine" how would I recognize the difference of all the supplemental nutes from say AN without knowing what a "regular" grow I can produce would look like.

So thanks for the info and advice!

:toke: Fluffhead-- I'm with A4 100%... any product that's so-called self adjusting in pH will only do so when in solution, and as A4 mentioned, the more buffering minerals* are in the water, the harder the self buffering will struggle to adjust.. too much and it'll lose the battle, deplete out and pH will swing up again,... *(mainly CaCO3, it's the carbonate anion that's involves with buffering, the free Ca++ is a vital nutrient, but not involved directly with pH buffering)... with RO/Di or any very low ppm/EC water, the minerals are gone so no buffering capacity; this make such water swing wildly in pH from even small inputs! Most of the self buffering nute lines will have sufficient buffering capacity to handle this situation, but not so much with hard water! ..Very important especially when dealing with a medium that's meant to be run at lower pH's like Promix and coco, vs. true soil...:smoking:

...ooops! I forgot to add, that once in the medium, there are a several other influencing factors on pH, and what the nutes bring alone to this equation isn't nearly enough to handle all the other influencing factors in-pot!

@Waira lol. Does not compute!!! Omg overload!!!! You just fryed my hard drive... just kidding, sorta... i do totally understand were you are going with that. Btw im not totally obsessed with running AN line. But that's what I've got so. Atleast this first run it's going to be what i use. Truthfully I wish I went with a tlo deal. Especially my first grows. But I feel that I do have the capacity to learn and do what it takes to do this style grow with handwatering the nutrients. Im going to research all you said after work today.. I feel you shared that knowledge in hopes of helping!!! To be honest it might be a bit early to try and compute some of that... lol. Thank you though family... peace and respect to ya. I hope once I get this journal started I will have your kind input along for ride
