Indoor A-Train's Going Back to Basics.......

No its not the air pump it's jut when you add too much hydroton the coco doesn't touch the water in the tray and the wicking action is gone. My pump is a 7.8L per min...
yeah that is plenty 1.95 l to each dome if running 4 .... seeing as I screwed up with covering the domes completely I have set one more up correctly :D just waiting for the seed to pop

Stick with me here but could you cut a small piece of plastic from the pots side ,near the bottom, to remove some hydroton? The whole pot of coco should slide down easily then possibly restoring the wicking action

It shouldn't shock plants too much as the roots don't seem to have reached the bottom yet? I've never tried the above though, it might be worth a shot if you're stuck before leaving.

i am guilty of over filling two pots above the dome too . I might still try the air pump next weekend just to see though the third little seedling was done correctly but there is quite some time yet

But on the other hand, as I noted in another Autopots thread, do we really know, has it been established for real, that having more or less Hydroton, more or less coco/perlite than 50/50, etc. is best with cannabis plants? I think Autopots are so new, we AFNer's (other than just a few early adopters) are just starting to use them. It will take time and people experimenting to find what's best.

Everybody's making very plausible assumptions and good suggestions about Autopot use, but these could simply be off. For example, what if it actually is better to have more Hydroton vs. coco/perlite (suggested by a plant I examined post-harvest having near all of its roots down in the Hydroton, not coco/perlite); and some presume (following the lead of a few successful early adopters?) that 70/30 coco-perlite mix is better than the recommended 50/50. But it is possible that 40/60 or or even 30/70 coco-perlite might be better (with perlite adding aeration while the coco just needlessly holds even more water). And also as I questioned in another thread, maybe we should consider adding real wet-dry cycles to Autopots, such as turn the water supply off once or 2x per week and let the pots dry out as most of us normally would growing in coco/perlite.

There nothing off about TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE HYDROTON. There is no too little it's not a 100% necessity but if you fill it too much the wicking action is not there. It's not speculation it's fact. That's where were at now. I'm top and bottom feeding hoping more of the root mass will form and I can later use the domes and res but if not. I'll manage the best I can and know better next time
