Hello AFN

I just have what I think is an easy question for someone who knows a little bit of genetics.

Just to clear the air, these will be for personal use only.

I read the whole deal on mandelian genetics, and to a lay person, it was just to much to absorb. I was way out of my league. However, what I want to do it simple.

I have Two Auto strains that are stablized. If I cross the two. Am I going to get 100% Auto's. From what i read, that the chances are good, but, if I want to get the best from that, I have to back cross the good phenos back to the mother.

That's it. Is it right, or is that wrong?

Thanks in advance folks.

how do you back cross to a auto mother.....(auto X auto = auto).........you really cant clone an auto.....

Well I would grow another of the female strains again, and take pollen from one of the crossed males.

See, told you it was outa my league.

Not really worried about backcrossing to the original female at the moment. The thing I am really wondering is if the two auto's are going to produce auto offspring.

Is that better said, sorry if I am confusing peeps.

thats kinda of what i did but, i had to back cross with the male pollen since thats the only viable genes i had from the origanol cross........

If both are 100% then they offsping will be 100%

aa x aa = aa

Thanks, I think that answers my question. I truly appreciate it.

Depends on if you are continuing a stable strain or creating an F1. Sounds like an F1 so very likely you'll autoflower and your seed crop will be homogeneous "IF" each parent strain is stable. If the parent strains are hybrids themselves then you'll have a crop of autoflowers with multiple phenos--now if one of the phenos is special to you, you'll have to go to F2, F3,--- about F4 or latter you'll have a new strain.

both strains are stable, yes it would be creating a new hybrid. So this should be okay? I mean, I am not trying to breed out any trait or anything. I just want some viable seeds that either of these two strains will give me or a combination of the two. I do want to know if they will be auto's when they emerge. But if there is any thing else I should do, that is what I need to know.

I can follow basic rules of recessive genes etc. But because both of these plants are stable. It seems to me that one in four will come out the wrong pheno. Only because the recessive trait "auto flowering" can never completely be gotten rid of.

Okay, now I am not set, and I am now even more confused.

Can anyone point me in a direction where I can get some facts on this?

Or at least shed some light on my direction.

Okay what you are about to create is an F1 hybrid. You should expect a homogenious crop with a realitively tight phenotype. Expect autoflowering too. Your new plant may show dominate/recessive characters or it may have co-doninate traits. What the last part means is if all your traits are dom/rec you can go to F2 and beyond to stabilize. If your traits are co-dom then you need to create the cross each time to get that unique F1 phenotype. You may also get something called F1 vigor-the new plant grows better than ether parent and better than the F2, F3-----fresh remix of cross DNA that is best in the F1. Sorry I can't direct you to all the theoretical but that is the outlook in a nutshell.

yes eek, your confused as all hell.... auto x auto = auto always... can't be undone back to non auto...

auto eek(strain#1) x auto eekman(strain#2) = (mastereekman auto F1) from there mastereekman auto F1 x mastereekman auto F1=mastereekman F2......

And after you make your cross...you own it buddy put your own name on it and be proud...

Dont think about any backcrossing till you get the whole inbreeding figured out...

Know your F1s...know your parents...till you know that you know nothing...
