diySWCbucket.jpg Hi AFN! I plan on growing my last seed in a 5 gallon HD bucket. I understand how to build on ( I think) but every video I see, they are using potting mix as a wicking agent and covering the top of the bucket with plastic bags. My Question: do I need to use potting soil like the videos? Or can I use any wicking agent? And can I use the plastic bag method as a replacement for say straw?

P.S. I should note that I'm currently using a swc in a 2.5 x2.5 tray with growstone gs-1. Just wondering if I can do the same in a closed bucket.

Sitting in on this!

I drilled some holes around the sides of both bucket, to copy a air pruning pot, I know this will Not air prune my Roots, but it will supply some air to them, and lined the inside of bucket with landscape fabric.
Going to grow a Sweet Seed Bloody Skunk, in my organic mix, as soon as I put my Autocob together!

I think capillary action or wicking works the best if you use a substance with a similar size particulate as your medium. If your going to do a journal with this one I'll pull up a chair and learn I've never used that method.

Thanks, I guess we will be learning together!
I have never tried this either! I have only seen this done with tomatoes plants on you tube, so, I figured, from what I heard, that tomatoe plants are the closest to Cannabis?, so! Here we go..
I'm using gs-growstone, I have about 30 to 40% mixed into my soil and at the bottom of the wicking cup.
I will be dropping my seed this week.

Ok, I'm ready to rock and roll, got my cobs, in a 2.5 x 2.5 x 5 feet grow tent, my own organic soil mix, will use Cal/Mag, Molasses and Neptune's Fish Ferts 2-4-1, not sure if I gonna use the plastic bag on top of bucket yet! Was wondering if I do use the plastic bag, will it produce condensation and drip down on top of dirt, so, no need to top water? Anyways, this is my experiment, hope I can get some help or advise along the way.
Oh! Dropped seed on 9/8 Im growing a Sweet seed auto Bloody Skunk, had 4 seeds and three of them when to shit, two hermied and one when moldy in jar! All with FF trio nutes...

So, I topdress, and covered with plastic bag, planted on the 8th and seed sprouted on the 11th, 2 days old, today.
Had to bring the cob lights very close to prevent stretching, someone told me that means the lights are not that strong! We will see about that!!
