Hello all, I’m currently 3 days in to a Dutch Passion StarRyder grow and I thought I’d share a bit about how I do things along with a few photos of the girls as they grow.
To give you a little bit of background, I’ve been growing autos for about 2 years now, mainly Sweet Seeds strains, but have dabbled with others and to date I’ve probably harvested around 25-30 autos with varying results, but mostly positive with an average yield of 1 ½ - 2 oz, give or take.
For this grow I’ll be giving Dutch Passion’s new auto StarRyder a go, I’ve seen some good results with this strain so I’m looking forward to seeing how they do and here’s some info ripped from the breeders website:
StarRyder is the product of a very successful project between Dutch Passion and the Joint Doctor. The collaboration took a few years to create this outstanding AutoFem variety. An exceptional Dutch Passion Isis clone, a premium Sativa with a first class "high", was carefully hybridised by Joint Doctor with one of his best Indica dominant automatics. The result is a very potent AutoFem variety. The first part of the name refers to the outstanding quality and performance, a real Star. The second part of the name refers to the Joint Doctor, the autoflowering pioneer and producer of the original LowRyder.
StarRyder grows like a compact Christmas tree, producing large resinous buds, growing to around 50cm tall and yielding 45 to 100 grams to the average grower. Experienced AutoFem growers can yield over 100 grams per plant growing in soil or coco. Yields of over 200 grams per plant are possible with hydro methods such as DWC (Deep Water Culture) in the hands of the very best growers who will be able to grow plants around 1m tall. The THC content is around 15 to 19% which is special for an AutoFem variety. The "high" is described as powerful and fast hitting. The taste is smooth and sweet.
My set up is fairly straight forward, for the first 14 days they stay in a micro veg box which is just a PC case, stripped out and lined with mylar, lights are 3 x 23w CFL’s and PC fans for intake/exhaust.
After 14 days they’ll be potted up into their final 6.5 ltr pots and placed into a DR60 under a 250w HPS on an 18/6 light cycle which they’ll stay on until harvest.
Soil will be B&Q Seedling and Cutting compost for the first 14 days, then at pot up, I’ll switch to Plant Magic Soil Supreme. Nutes will be Plant Magic Oldtimers Grow & Bloom when needed, a sprinkling of Plant Magic Granules at pot up and Plant Magic Bio-Silicon used after pot up for about 14 days.
So that sets the scene and now on to the germination, I’ve been having a bad run of late cracking beans so it was back to the drawing board and this time I soaked the beans in water for 48 hours, I then placed the now cracked cracked seeds between a damp kitchen towel and put them in a sealed sandwich box for a further 48 hours before putting them into their first 0.5 litre pots and into the microbox under 24 hour light cycle.
After a further 24 hours all 4 seeds were poking their heads through the soil and today is day 3 and I’m pleased to report all 4 girls have now shed their shell husks and are reaching for the light and here’s some pics…
