Hello everyone, for those who know nothing about me I have been growing for over 20 years. I started in DWC for about the first 8 years, then moved to Coco. I personally think Coco is much more forgiving and yields extremely well. But a friendly conversation with @derek420colorado got my old hydro wheels spinning. I had all the parts but a lid and some stones.
So for experimental purposes I will be using as close to the same everything. Each plant will have a dedicated 55w Autocob and feeding strengths will be as close to possible as I can unless plants tell me otherwise. I will follow Derek's routine, which is pretty much a version of Tang's feeding schedule. I use RO, so I do have liquid Cal and Epsom for Mag if/when needed.
I have a pump with a lot of air moving around by a 4 inch disk and a couple stones. I also have an Airdome in my AutoPot that will be turned on after about 2-3 weeks. The only difference in my starting of seeds is that I always precharge my Coco with light nutes/Calmag and sprinkle some Mycos in seed hole, and DWC is just straight RO for now. Plan on feeding DWC around day 10 to follow recipe, but obviously I will read the plant.
Today is basically day 1 for the Coco girl and day 2 for the DWC girl. To be honest the experiment was going to be with White Cracks, but a little seed didn't germ. The 3 BOG seeds pop crazy fast, so I started another one and it is only 1 day behind the hydro girl that was started with the White Crack seeds. I planted the one good White Crack seed in 2gal pot, day 2 as well. So I will get a couple pictures up tonight. Pretty excited to do this side by side, been 12 years since last time I did DWC, my temps run higher than I prefer for hydro...but let's see what happens with these girls. Thanksfor stopping by. slowandeasy

This is going to be awesome I have a feeling that you were going to come out with two amazing plants granite I think that your DWC girl will be bigger lol I don't think you can loose with your experience, my technique and @mephisto genetics it is going to be an awesome grow yo watch. Also I will be doing the same thing, since @slowandeasy is willing to do my technique I am going to try his and do a coco autopot grow to see how I like it compared to my max O2 DWC method. This is going you've sweeet

Hey Derek, if you don't have an AutoPot I can send you an Airdome and you can handwater or set up a dripper system for dirt cheap. Biggest thing with Airdomes and Coco is that it will dry it out the coco and the roots much faster than without Airdome. So if you handwater, don't be shy. Water to runoff Everytime if possible and often once the roots are established well enough to turn the Airdome on.
It will be cool to see this side by side. You will be surprised how big plants in Coco can get. My Sour Stompers are about 5ft tall in 2gal pots. Flushing them now

Hell yeah that's huge! That's one of the things I I am kind of worried about where I live the humidity is so low that my pots dry out very quickly anyway and I'm not too keen on having to water plants six times a day LOL but we will see I am willing to give it a try though for the sake of trying new things.

If they are going to dry out that fast, go Automated. Salts build up and roots die when Coco drys out too much or too fast. Check out my Micro grow with 1/2 gal pots of Coco! I have drip stakes flooding 6x per day. They are on Autopilot. I just top off the Rez when needed with nutes. They are doing so well that next time I am doing 6 Sour Cracks and lollipop them. I got into Autos looking for SOG STYLE autos. Unfortunatly, The only way I can force any plant I grow to stay small is restrict the roots. I don't mind experimenting to find what works best. Some plants are not worth reducing pot size, but some are.
I don't always agree with bigger is better with plants. Sometimes bigger has more waste. I don't have a problem with plant numbers, so I don't mind doing multiple strains at a time. If you are only doing one plant in Coco and are worried about frequent watering, grab a black Rez, a little submersible pump for $13, some black 1/4 drip tube, on/off flow valve, a couple 1/4 tees, and some drip stakes. Like $25. And a timer if you don't have one. My little Micro grow is probably the easiest grow ever done. They have 3 more weeks left. Peace
