Yes they will work but if you have the couple extra bucks like maul said go with a digital meter. It's possible if the lights were to far away but with the CFL's you should have them a few inches away right on top of the plant. Most autoflower seedlings dont respond well to pre ferted soil that's why if you do a quick search you will notice that most newer growers that go to the nearest home depot or lowes and grab there soil normally have problems early on and they end up chasing them the whole grow. I also agree with maul on the PH meter first before anything else for that same fact. You go buy the soil,seeds,ferts ect then when your first problem arises you have no clue what's going on and have to run out and buy one or your plant just ends up dying. If you don't have the cash for a digital one I would atleast grab the strips so you can get an idea of what's going on then attend to the problem as soon as possible.
