Lighting 2nd Grow: Rapid Afghan and Easy Ryder, Airpots, CFL

100% spot on snooch!

Years ago we had a black afghan hash phase. A long phase, really. That was some awesome stuff. I THINK they were calling it Black Afghani. A big one-hitter and you were good for a while. I liked it a lot better than the "Blonde" stuff we had going around.

But now, If it's a strong couch lock high, it's be my "special stash" for recreational pleasure. :bong:

Glad to see you got another grow going Noods, looks like you got a good bunch of people subbed, so i'll hop on board for sure, i was sorry i missed your first grow i joined this forum just at the end but i still have that grow subbed too, i compare my er to how your girls did on similar dates. I don't think my er's will match your first grow but i happy to be growing and learning along with you

Alright Prez! Glad to have you here my friend! I'm watching you too.
Here you go- this ER has been curing a few weeks
:smokebuds:
Good, innit?

Not much going on. They're both growing slower than expected. I guess my ER spoiled me. She took off like crazy from the get go. Both are healthy and growing, just much slower. The ER is taller and slimmer. The RA is very short but fatter and putting out a little more green.

I finally got the temps tuned in right, staying at 24-25°C or 75-77°F. I'm fighting to keep humidity higher than 40% by misting and by setting bowls and bubbling buckets of water in the cab. I don't know why that is. The window is open in the room outside the cab and it's been raining for the last two weeks. But it's dry as a desert in my cab.

This last bottle of distilled water is a bitch. The pH is 7.2 out of the bottle. I get it down to about 6.8 with a taste of molasses, but that's about it. Lemon juice does the rest, down to 6.2 - 6.4. So I'm probably going to use my tap water. That is 7.4 out of the tap. If I have to mess with pH, I might as well take advantage of the minerals in the tap water. Maybe. I have a few more bottles of distilled water. It's just strange that these bottles have all different pH values. Yes, my pH pen is calibrated.

I'm wondering if the slow growth is due to the fact that they were germ'd in these "giant" 2.5 gal pots and therefore the roots are taking longer to get right and then they'll start to go better. Could that be correct, or just wishful thinking? Anyone know?
:smokebuds:

;-) they are so boring when they are small hehe i know.

I just cant wait for some nice bud picture :)

Not sure about that noods. Early days but hope they will be fine. Day 7 is it?
I will return the healthy seedling karma you sent me.*:peace:

Hey, our plants are the exact amount of days old. The 3rd was Day One for my four plants. We should be harvesting together :smokebuds:

Thanks for the Karma snooch. I still think it has something to do with germing in the big pots. I think the cylinder I made from the seedling soil in the middle of the hot soil was too thin and the very young roots got into it the hot stuff and said, "Yikes!". I think they're happy now though; they've started going a little better since yesterday.

Right on flwr! This should be fun!

On Day 9 I found the tap root from the Rapid Afghan peeking out through the bottom of this big ass 1' tall airpot!

It's cool to know that she went straight down through the seedling soil in the middle. You can see where the tap root split into two and then got air pruned. It looks like two brown hairs hanging on. (Can't see the hairs in the pic though.) RA tap.JPG

Both the ER and the RA have been slow to start, but I think they've decided to start growing. They've both been putting on some serious millimeters these last two days! In width. Not too much in height. lol But seriously, they have been.

That was the RA, about 5cm tall. The ER is a little taller but with thinner leaves and is just a very small bit behind in leaf growth.

They've been getting some very light bubbled teas. Combinations of molasses, seaweed, alfalfa and distilled water, with a few drops of lemon juice added after brewing to lower pH down to 5.8 - 6.4. I'm not trying to make it an exact pH value every time. Different goodies are taken up through the roots at different pH levels. So my thinking is, I'm sort of sweeping the spectrum and getting more than I would if I just stayed at one specific value. Is this faulty thinking? Please tell me so if it is!

My humidity sucks at around 40% (when it's high!) so I'm trying to keep that up with containers of water and doing a lot of misting

Lights are on 24/0 with each plant receiving it's own combination of 56w blue + 23w red cfl's about 6" above the plant.

Temps are between 24° and 26°.

And now I'm off to sample some EasyRyder that's been curing for three weeks....
