I'm an Irish French halfbreed. My Irish relatives are from Cork for the most part.

Well I'm located in an area that gets very cold in the winter. I am really looking to grow just enough to get me through until spring when I can try a proper outside grow.

I think if I can get this up and running, I'll be ok through mid December. It doesn't usually get really cold until January or so. I figure the heat from my lights will be enough to keep them warm and toasty.

Take a look here: http://www.autoflower.org/members/muddy/albums/outdoor-grow-box/. This is an outdoor grow box I built last year. Basically the same idea as what you would need to build in your crawl space. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just an enclosed, insulated area. The green thing up in the corner is the exhaust fan. The duct on the left side is the exhaust. I'm not using a carbon filter in that box since it's not close to anything and there's no real danger of anyone smelling it. In your case you would run another short piece of duct off the right side and hook it to a carbon filter.

I've had crawl spaces in several houses I've owned and in my experience they usually stay around 55 degrees or so year round. Depending on why kind of lights you use they might generate enough heat to keep it warm enough. If not, a small $20 space heater would allow you to run it all winter. Because mine is outdoors I have to shut it down for the summer as I don't have any a/c in it. You might be able to run one in your crawl space year round if you wanted.

A 3' x 3' x 6' box would be big enough for 4-6 plants depending on the strain/size. With a little practice and experience you could probably pull 6 oz. or more per grow. The basics that you would need would be 2 x 4s to stud it out, insulation for the floor, walls and ceiling, intake and exhaust vents, mylar or white paint on the interior walls, a piece of scrap vinyl for the floor, caulking, electricity. I'd also suggest a variable speed controller for the fan so you can control the amount of heat exhausted by setting the fan speed. I used a modular style to build mine. Built the floor, walls and roof in the garage, then put it all together at the site.

Hey Muddy have you ever dug your crawl space deeper? Mellow any hieght you get would really be worth it.

I dug mine down a foot and a half to make myself a grow space and used some premixed concrete that comes in paper bags. I just ripped it open and put it in some 2X4 forms spread it even in the forms with a stick and just added water. No pre mixing, and it makes very good concrete. Just got the extra 18" and made the grow work. That was two houses and twenty years ago but it worked for me and made the grow work. Now with autos, maybe 6 ft. high would work but I hate hitting my head so much I don't know if I could do it so low down.

My full size 8 ft. grow room is just heated by the lights and a small 1500 watt electric heater with a built in thermostat for the cold nights. An easy fix to cold nights. I wish warm days would be as easy a fix. Really considering an air conditioner for next Summer.

No can do here. My crawl space is only about 3' at it's highest, 1' at the lowest. The soil here is churt, a combination of limestone bits and clay. Even a 3 point mounted post hole digger won't drill it, so it would be almost impossible to dig it out by hand.

Is this what I will need?

Is this what I would need or should I make one?

Yep, that will take care of smell and exchange the air in the grow space.
