Happy growing and welcome!

I am a newbie grower who is having quite a few setbacks myself. All of the MG Organic soils (potting and garden) have slow release ferts. Not sure on the Potting but the Garden Soil is full of bark. Personally, I wouldn't use it again for my MJ. Also, pH is important! I didn't have the $$$ to fork out for better soil and a pH meter. I didn't really want to do the hour drive to a hydro shop either. Now I am paying the price with my expensive seeds. I will be using organic soil from a hydro store next grow. Probably something not as expensive as FFOF maybe Roots etc. Also, I ordered a pH meter from ebay for $13-14. Not top of the line, but others use it on this site. It gets the job done. You might be able to use the MG soils if you get the pH under control.
finally someone on my level lol, yea i def dont want to risk using MG with these seeds so ill have to do the same. Dang man i didnt even think to check on ebay for the ph meter hahahaha guess ive been smokin too much :coffe:. are you growing any now?

A light source is usually measured in Lumens but as the light source is used various measurements as how much of the light being produced is actually directed onto the plants from a certain distance. The unit that is used to measure that is a foot candle. When you are using light for Photsynthetic Active Radiation that is how much of the light actually helpa a plant grow the foot candle is given in PAR units. The infra red spectrum and UV spectrum are filtered out and the remaining part is called PAR units. Most of the heat is in the infra red spectrum from most lights.
When you filter it out you can see the effeciency really dives down. The other effect is the fact that light in the longer wave lengths such as infra red has a much better penetrating affect and makes it to the bottom of the plant easier than the higher spectrums. The full spectrum light is highest at the top of the plant where it is of course higher in intensity because it is closer to the light source but also because the higher spectrums are not filtered by the folliage. To measure intensity you must use a PAR meter to get accurate readings of the usefull light spectrum. It is usually measured top of plant, mid plant and ground level.

I don't have a PAR meter cause they are expensive. I end up useing an old 35mm. camera light meter and my readings are only good for comparison readings between different types of light. These readings are not very useful for any real experimenting and reading your results or doing any real science on the different light bands. For that you not only need a PAR meter but a PAR meter with an accurate set of filters to measure each color band. We are talking several thousnd dollars for this kind of meter. Google both Foot candle meter and PAR meter on google and read until your head spins. I have a Physics degree and I have already done all this stuff. I remember a lot of it. Good reading my buddies.

haha woow is all i have to say :clap::clap: that gets intense! i never would have thought!

alright man well i have an area thats closed off its about 5' tall and 3' wide. the lights im using are just basic 26W flouros (i will be using 4). i did line the walls of the area with tin foil to reflect more, idk if thats bad or good to do that. and the soil i havent got yet but i was thinking a basic miracle grow. now i do get paid tomorrow so please make a list of some things i should get or change lol

yeai know my mother has my camera right now lmao. and see the set up i have now is not very good at all so tomorrow when i get paid im picking up better lights and soil. now the whole "PH" thing lol i do not understand that at all, i know people talk about PH pens but thats about it haha
Check this thread to learn about pH. It's very important.

holy shit guys :( first off i greatly apologise for not keeping everything up to date but i got a promotion at work im now assistant manager :D so thats been taking up all my time. but i checked the plant and dear lord its about 7 inches and on its 4th node, its doing waaay better than what i thought. their is a problem i should have asked from the beging but its in the garage and i live up north so its getting damn cold out. the past few nights have been getting into the upper 30's, now will my plant be fine? or do they not grow well at all in the cold? it has the heat from the light and its still doing amazing so idk if i should move it inside ( which would be damn tricky) or what? and i cant have a heater running all the time so thats out of the question

ok well ive read a few posts and seen that people have had the cold destroy their plants, im moving it inside tonight asap, but i need to know how to make something to get rid of the smeel i think thats what carbon filters are for right?

some beautiful pics of sour d i picked up, pics of the plant will be put up tomorrow for observation by everone

The SourD is looking nice mate, did you figure out a solution to your smell issue?

lol i know man it was bomb, well yes and no lol i got the activated carbon and went to walmart to pick up two different sized mesh pencil cups to make the carbon filter but they didnt have either size so now i need to figure out what else to use to make it lol. and please BailerBud come back tomorrow look at my pics and give me some advice lol basicly the girl is very healthy and its right around day 21 but she is only around 5 to 6" tall and she already has pistols forming in 8 bud sites :( i dont know if she is too small to handle budding or what. Like i said though she looks completely healthy just really damn short. The light cycle is 20/4. and boy oh boy is she flowering fast, im starting to love autos :D

and no i have not used any nutes at all yet i need to get some epsom for sure though

do you have any nutes? cuz you're gonna want em to get the max outta your plant... what soil are you in?

I personally use the fox farm trio as well as some fish / seaweed fert mix and a few other amendsments... epsom salts for mag... molasses for mag and calcium...

IMG_20111103_230028.jpgIMG_20111103_225803.jpgIMG_20111103_225722.jpgHey everyone, OK so this might be a long one so just hang in their. To start this thread over and right this is thunder bloody mary auto on Day 22 now. I had it in a pc case but the fan cought fire lol so i just took a big box and lined the inside with windshield reflective. yea I know cheap as hell but i just recently lost my job so im just doin what i can :( . The soil is a mix of Perlite and MG Sphagnum Peat Moss. The lighting is one 125 watt CFL above and one 25 watt CFL off to the side a little lower Now the past few days the flowering has been very iIMG_20111103_225633.jpgntense but look how short she is lol, any tips? For all you pros out their im very sorry, i know their is allot im not doing right or not doing at alIMG_20111103_225559.jpgl but like i said im tryin to make the best of my situation. Hope you guys at least like what you see so far of this ugly beast of a beauty! thanks!
