I'm currently growing DP think different, I'm about 2 weeks in and every thing seems ok so far except I'm really struggling with maintaining good humidity, I've tried the old hot water in a bowl but it doesnt seem to be making a difference, can any one advise a good humidifier, preferable one thats quiet as sound is an issue, I want to maintain a good 40-50% humidity but it mostly in the the 30s, or I'm I just having another 1st time growers anxiety panic attack

cheers

Hey, welcome. Firstly, don't panic.
Okay, that out of the way, I have to ask, what's typical humidity where you live? Since that can greatly affect how easy raising humidity is. Also, what size is your grow area, describe how your lighting is set up (and what kind it is). Also, remember, when it comes to bowls etc, larger surface area = larger amount of water vapourising into the air which = more humidity.

M8 don't worry so much about low humidity... It can do no harm.... Your humidity will rise as your plants grow & start to breathe anyway.... Once that happens watch out for high humidity... Especially when your girls are in flower as bud rot can & will set in... (if humidity is too high that is)..

If your humidity is low plants will develop thinner leaves which will transpire less water. In higher humidity plants will develop wider leaves and maybe grow a little faster during vegging. However, dry air is preferable during flowering because you won't have to worry about mold. Plants also will produce more resin as a way of protecting itself from drying. This means more potent buds. Many growers like to lower the humidity as much as possible in the last several days of flowering for that reason.

Agreed, but before bud formation, optimal RH% will do nothing but boost plant performance.

Don't worry mate, I was in the exact same situation as you 2 months ago when I started my 1st grow. I had soaring 35ºC and 25% RH. I almost quit entirely, pulling my hair and kicking myself for buying a 600w HPS and not the 400w... and the noise my fan made to keep it ALMOST bearable was like a jet engine. This little trick saved my butt, and I am now 3 or 4 weeks for tasting my very own grown crop :jump:

And so will you!

On another known forum I concocted a cheap easy humidifier. I won't link you up to it because I don't know if this forum allows cross-linking. I managed to drop temps by as much of 15ºC and raise RH% 10-20%. In doing so, as my main concern is sonic stealth, I was able to turn down my fan considerably.

I found that an open bowl evaporates very very slowly, as water retains the heat, but not to a point of constant evaporation. So I thought up this idea. I tested thoroughly with many different fabrics.

Get a piece of cloth that is not very dense and lets air through easily. Preferably organic like wool or flannel, so it soaks up water really nice.

Hook it up over you air intake port (mine is passive), then put a bowl of water underneath. I also have a 6" fan under the cannopy, but also helping direct air in.

The fabric soaks up the water, then airflow + heat keeps a constant rate of evaporation, In my tent it got up to 2,5L per day!!! Before flowering, I could easily keep RH% mid 60's.

But, when the buds started growing, you don't need this at all. It also works wonderfully as a bug/particle filter.

Try it, hope it helps and saves you money!

That's a neat idea bro... Not that I'll ever need to use it where I'm at but... Yeah... a good idea nonetheless

thanks guys, I have 4 plants in a 1.5x1.5 tent with 600w bulb in a cooling tube, the weather in the north west is usually wet and my intake is sucking air direct from outside, hope this help

cheers
