Well all the ladies seem to be doing well, they've been pre-flowering for about a week now and are shooting up and out. Bud sites are appearing all over especially on the Black Jacks. They all look nice and green and seem to be responding well to the nutrients. I'm hoping to see some buds showing in a week or 2, then the real fun begins, seeing those badboys filling out...

Wow, when are these buggers gonna stop growing??? Black Jack number 1 can grow about 3 more inches then I've run out of room. They've been in pre-flower for a week or so so I'm hoping vertical growth is gonna slow down soon. I've had to put boxes and book in my tent to raise some of the plants up because of the varying height differences, something I should have anticipated but hey ho.

looking good johnny, nice setup.
id say theyll slow down vertically soon but probably a little more to go, what day are they on? its late enough but if you think height will be a problem you could do some light lst just bend one over a bit and tie it down so the top shoot is pointing down or sideways. just poke a hole in the rim of your pot and tie it onto that, itll buy you a few inches and shouldnt hurt unless you are too rough.

itll straighten up in a day or two and keep on growing as normal.

I think the biggest one is on day 28-30, tying it down might be a good idea...

its very easy and effective id go for it myself, im doing something similar to mine atm, if you do it from a young age aswell you can change the structure, the plant sends hormones to the highest shoots so when you bring the main tip below the rest of the plant it tells the other shoots to grow, if you have a particularly tall plant you can change it to a more bushy type with an even canopy thats much easier to deal with/light well and you can get good results.

if the stems are stiff do it in stages, just bend it over a little then a bit more in a few hours/a day etc. just to avoid snapping the stem(most this will be very hard to do but some have woody stiff stems)
pics are just for an idea, you wouldnt need to do anything as complicated, one bend over should do the trick.

i like to loop string behind a node so it doesnt slip or damage any new branches etc. knots can get too tight when the stem gets thicker etc.
its best to do in early veg but i think you arent too far along anyway.

Cheers bgrt, I may give some of the young plants a bit of LSTing, for the one that was getting too big, I've just tied the top cola (is that the correct term) down, I can already see how this will benefit the plant... restricting height and allowing more light to the lower branches.

that should do the trick, and cola it is.
also to keep height down if temperatures will allow move your light closer to keep them from stretching, though bleaching can occur if they are too close to the bulb etc. i cant tell from your pics really how high it is and im not sure if it would be safe but just another option, heres a chart on light distances and optimal height.
it says 400 watt hps can be 6 inches away safely but this is only true if your temps are ok at that distance so youd need to check and keep an eye out for heat stress etc. might not be necessary anyway just another way to keep the height down.

for the young plants keep in mind it will make them bush out sideways too, much less of a problem but its good to have adequate ventilation and bushy plants crammed in wont help that. if you want them to bush out less you can wait till theyre a bit older and itll have less of that effect. whatever works anyway.

Thanks again, mate. My lights are about 14 inches away from the canopy, which according to that chart is in the optimum range. They plants look well though so I may try lowering the light a bit to try and slow down the stretch, although I don't want them to get too bushy I suppose what with having 8 plants in there.
