It’s Jedi Mind Fuck update time…
The tub has been in the fruiting tent for two weeks. The surface of the mycelium has remained unchanged… no hyphal knots, no pins… no mushies.
On Monday I noticed a few pins forming around the sides, and by Wednesday evening, the tub looked like this…
Not much to see there at first glance, but zoom in and take a closer look and you can see mushrooms around the sides of the block on the right and at the bottom left.
Here’s a closer look at the right side…
And even closer…
The next day, Thursday morning, the mushrooms were much bigger…
And when I got home that evening, they were even bigger, and a few of the veils had opened, so I just started pulling them out.
There was much more that I expected because underneath the block in the corners, there was loads of shrooms.
Looking at that pic just above, you can see the left corner lifting up because of all the mushrooms that have grown underneath.
I was caught a bit by surprise and didn’t have my phone on me for pics, and I was worried about them going bad underneath, so I just pulled the lot immediately and laid them out on some kitchen paper towel to dry a bit.
Here’s the full crop…
.Here’s a better look at that clump of three on the top there…
Later I made a joint, and spent an hour trimming off any mycelium and substrate and tidied them up.
Here’s what I got…
And a quick weigh up…
Not bad at all… a shade over 300g!
I sliced any thicker stems in half and put them all in the food dehydrator.
Here’s the final crop, 28g Jedi Mind Fuck cracker dry…
and a closer look…
So why the side pinning???
I’ve been over fanning the tubs, making the surface of the substrate dry out.
On top of that, I haven’t been misting enough. Hyphal knots are stimulated to form when tiny droplets of water evaporate on the mycelium, and I have been drying out those droplets instead of letting nature do its thing. The gaps around the sides had a more humid microclimate, and the mushrooms grew there instead.
I’m now fanning less vigorously and for less time, and using the Flairosol water mister, so lets see if I can get the whole surface of the JMF tub to fruit for a second flush.
In other news, the Tat Wombat tub is colonising well…
and so is the Albino Trinity…
You can see the layers of dark substrate and white colonisation… they call that ‘lasagne’ in the mushroom world.
I forgot to put liners in when I made up the tubs, so that will be fun with more potential side pinning. ![]()
I’ll let you know how they go!
Cheers for tuning in and dropping out ![]()
