Simply Nuggets Grows: Dutch Passion & Sawney Bean

Welcome to Simply Nuggets 4x8

Strain Overview

I will be growing Dutch Passion - Auto Daiquiri Lime, Auto Candy Bubatz, Auto Lemon Kix & Sawney Beans - White Gen 3.

Equipment Overview

Tent: Gorilla Grow 4x8

Airflow: 2x Vivosun 6” oscillating fans & Vivosun 6” in-line exhaust fan.

Climate Control: AeroLush C08 A/C, AeroDrain D12 Dehumidifier, AeroSteam H19 humidifier.

Controller: E42A+ currently but will be upgrading to X42 AI once it ships.

Grow set up: Two self made drip/ DWC set ups to hold four 6x6 rockwool cubes & four Auto Pots with 100% coco

Lighting:

ROI-E680 4x4 LED And a viparspectra “blurple” light.

24/7 through seedling and part of veg, 20/4 through late veg and flower.

Germination:

All seeds receive the same treatment. Two teaspoons Clonex in a quart of water,

lightly moistened a paper towel,

into a baggie until they have established a large enough tap route and then into whatever substrate they will be spending the rest of their life in.

Seedlings:

Day 1 -

Official Day One above ground post

Only two running behind are the Auto Candy Bubatz in coco, and the Auto Daiquiri Lime in Coco.

Realistically, I should’ve waited another day in the paper towel before I put them in, but I was trying to keep everything on the same schedule.

We will see if they bounce back or if that bites me in the ass.

Day 2-

Everything appears to have taken except for two of the Auto Lemon Kix seeds.

Which is a shame because they are the most expensive seeds I’ve purchased to date…

Thankfully, I got a seven pack so I have a couple more to start, they’re just gonna be a few few days behind the rest.

Also worth noting that all of the seeds that were started in the Growdan cubes appear to be going much better than anything else

Day 3 -

The 1 inch cubes all had a little taproot coming out of the bottom so they got moved into the final 6x6 cubes.

Hand watering for now just to keep everything moist.

In a week or so, I will set up automatic irrigation.

The Coco plants are a bit behind.

I think next time I will start them in 1 inch cubes and then move into Coco.

Side bar- underwhelming results from the Auto Lemon Kix seeds so far

(they also came in a different metal tin package than the other Dutch passion seeds that all came in a little plastic container)

Giving DP the benefit of the doubt right now, I reached out to customer support.

If I did not have three other strains (the other eight plants) all growing right now I would say maybe I did something wrong.

But where they were all started at the same time and have been given the same treatment straight through and the only strain I’m having the issue with the auto Lemon Kix seeds I’m not convinced this one is on me.

Will update when I hear back from them

Only 1 out of five have successfully germinated out of my pack of seven

DAY 4 -

No major update. All the action is going on under the surface right now.

And unfortunately, the Auto Lemon Kix seeds were duds. 48 hours and no action. That’s 4/5 seeds that failed to germinate, and the last two are TINY seeds. This will be the last auto lemon Kix seed update until I hear back from Dutch passion customer support.

Day 5 -

Day 6 -

BIG day!

Today the reservoirs were assembled for the DWC set up, the drip rings were put in place, and a few gallons of veg feed went into each.

Because I’m using Athena nutrients I am confident that my pH and nutrients will remain stable in those reservoirs until day seven when I actually turn on the time irrigation pumps.

The three coco solo cups had roots at the bottom, so I went ahead and transplanted them into the Auto Pots, and then top watered those three until I achieved roughly 20% runoff.

Auto Candy Bubatz ^

White Gen 3 ^

Auto Daiquiri Lime^

I will let them establish a root base for the next 7 to 10 days before I actually turn on the system.

And the White Gen 3 in soil (for the breeding project) got transplanted to its final 10 gallon container as well.

Soon I will have those other Auto Lemon Kix seeds, and I will start one in soil and one in coco to finish up the tent and the breeding set up!

A very productive first week in the tent!

Day 7 -

Plants are visibly bigger than they were yesterday, tomorrow I will begin irrigation.

For those who care the tent has maintained 80°F, and 72% humidity the entire first week. VPD of .9 and an infrared thermometer shows my leaves at 76° to 78°. Showing that the plants are actively transpiring water and cooling, therefore absorbing water and nutrients at a solid rate. We are off to the races!

Veg stage:

Day 8 -

The drip irrigation for the hybrid Drip/ DWC system has been turned on, everything looks to be growing beautifully.

It is worth noting that in the beginning of the seedling phase my pH monitor was out of calibration, and I gave the seedlings some very acidic feed. I quickly realized what was wrong and recalibrated it and flushed/ refed them, but they do have a slight bit of damage on some of the Young leaves.

Day 9 -

Day 10 -

Dropped the Blurple light down closer and kind of crowded everything together. Man I wish I had another 4x4 light. But we make do with what we have.

Day 11 -

Roots have started to come out of the 6 inch cubes, soon we will be in a true DWC system.

The auto pots are starting to explode with growth as well

I raised them up out of the base for now to allow air into the bottom of the pot, and also for drainage.

Hopefully, in another week, I can turn those on.

also got a couple more of the new Auto Lemon Kix seeds to pop. They will be a little behind the rest, but I think I will still be able to use one in the auto pot with this cycle and one in soil for the breeding project as originally intended!

Day 12-

Everyone that was big enough got the bent coat hanger tech for now.

All four in rockwool. And 2 of the 3 (currently) growing auto pots. - the ALK in the red solo will

Go into the last auto pot soon, and the last ALK will go in dirt for the breeding project in a day or so!

Day 13 -

Introduced the night cycle today.

They are now receiving 20 hours of daylight and four hours of darkness in the middle of the day.

During the first night cycle, the humidity skyrocketed to over 80% so I opened the vents on the bottom of the tent, programmed the in-line fan to kick on if it goes over 75%, and placeed the dehumidifier in the tent and set it for 70%

Parameters quickly leveled out after doing that.

Here is a little root porn, they’re officially coming out of the bottom of the cubes and reaching for the reservoir now.

Also, just want to let it be known that I have only watered those auto pots one time, (I did it to runoff) and the coco is still quite moist.

If anyone with auto pot experience wants to chime in and let me know if that is typical it would be appreciated!

Day 14 -

Two weeks! Two weeks from seed (for everything except for those late arriving auto lemon kix seeds)

But we don’t talk about that.

Parameters are dialed in, everything is chugging along. Really curious when this Coco is going to dry out and I can turn on those auto pots. A bit of a guessing game with how much root development has happened in the Coco, but where I see roots coming out at the bottom of the rockwool cubes now they have got to be somewhere near the bottom of the pot… I think.

Really really sad that the ph was messed up in the very beginning of this and the first leaves have that burn on it.

But a good reminder that damaged tissue will not repair itself.

Thanks for following along!

Day 15 -

Another eventful day! Today I - transplanted the last two seeds (the late Dutch passion Auto Lemon Kix) by setting the 1” rockwool cubes I started them in, one went into 100% coco in a solo cup band on day 11. That developed nice roots and has been moved into its forever home in an Auto Pot. So now all 4 are ready to rock. I also plugged all of the air domes in the auto pots into the pump. (Except that one ALK. Gonna give it a few more days.)

The other ALK seed that was in a 1” rockwool cube got put directly into a solo cup with 20/80 coco and soil where it will develop roots for the next few days before moving into its final 10 gallon pot. So we are one step closer to the breeding project!

As far as the 6” rockwool cubes in the drop/dwc system, they are all doing great. It sucks to see the damage on the leaf tissue from where they got bad pH water first week but at least all the new growth is healthy. The roots have officially reached the water in the reservoir, so I turned on the air pumps. And then I just readjusted the bent coat hanger to keep the tops down and allow the laterals to grow up as well as did some minor leaf tucking!

Day 16 -

Lots of tops forming from the bent coat hanger tech. Every day there is new explosive growth. I come in in the morning, I adjusted the coat hanger, and I will tuck a bunch of leaves to expose the lateral branches. When I come back in the evening, you can’t even tell that the leaves were tucked or the coat hanger was adjusted because it has grown so much.

Day 17 -

A quiet day with no major updates. I would say the biggest change is the Coco is FINALLY starting to dry out from where I watered it to runoff. One more full watering before I can finally start using the reservoir. So far, I would say it is not any easier than my hydroponic drip system. If anything slightly more of a pain in the ass with slightly slower results. But we will see if that changes as veg really picks up over the next two weeks and then we move into flower.

Day 18 -

Today had lots of updates as well! For starters I made a Co2 generator out of calcium carbonate and vinegar. Currently using garden lime for the calcium but plan to switch to crushed oyster shells. Whole set up cost less that $30. I’d though about a tank/regulator but just don’t wanna spend the money right now.

Next up I’ll show the whole family shot

The two res on the dwc each got 7 gallons of feed, and the Auto Pots got turned on after their second hand water. Also removed some fan leaves to expose the lateral branches to get more light on any plant that needed it, readjusted the garden ties to keep the tops down, and planted the last of the auto lemon kicks for the breeding project into its soil pot!

That’s all for today! Thanks for stopping by!

Day 19 -

A day with no major updates other than to touch base on the fact that the calcium carbonate and vinegar CO2 emitter is kind of a bust. A very strong reaction for about 12 hours, and then the vinegar becomes saturated with calcium acetate, and the reaction basically stops.

I will be switching to a yeast/fermentation CO2 emitter as styled by @KingRatt!

Day 20 -

No major update.

Removed a couple leaves that were blocking lateral branches.

Lowered the EC of the auto pot res from 2.0 to 1.5 (little bit of nutrient burn on the tips)

And gave the soil some plain water.

Day 21 -

The past couple days, there has been a little bit of water underneath my auto pots… but I knew it wasn’t the auto parts because the reservoir was not going down any faster than what the plants were drinking.

I was convinced the humidifier was hitting the ceiling condensation was building and dropping onto the floor… until the wife came in and pointed out one of my drippers in the corner was slightly clogged, and therefore spraying a teeny tiny stream of water onto the floor.

Just the way it goes, glad not too much damage was done, nor too much nutrient lost.

Other than that, I did a pretty big defoliation and opened up the plants. I feel like I’m constantly repeating myself, but the purpose was to open up the light and expose the lateral branches again.

Day 22 -

The biggest update today was the 32 gallon reservoir reinstalled for the humidifier!

I just took a 32 gallon trashcan, flipped the lid over and zip tied it to the handles, cut a small hole in it, and then ran the hose with a little bit of extra tubing down to the bottom of the trashcan.

Now instead of a 5 gallon capacity, it has 32, and it should not run out when I go to Maine for a week.

Obligatory picture of the girls!

Day 23 -

We have pre flower on the @Dutch-Passion Auto Lemon Kix and @SAWNEY-BEAN White Gen 3 (thankfully both in reservoir one so I can keep them on the same feed schedule)

Wg3 :down_arrow:

Auto Lemon Kix :down_arrow:

The Auto Candy Bubatz and the Auto Daiquiri Lime have yet to show me their lady parts

Having mixed feelings about the auto pots.

Top left is Auto Candy Bubatz and that’s doing the best by far. Top right is Auto Lemon Kix, and it was started significantly later, so it might very well catch up.

Bottom left and bottom right are the Auto Daiquiri Lime and White Gen 3, and they are just smaller plants (attributed to the smaller auto pot?) but my thought was that the logic behind an auto pot is the constant feeding grows monsters… these definitely seem smaller than I was anticipating and so far- my drip Hydro system is doing significantly better all around!

lastly in the tent we have the soil for the breeding project.

SMALL white Gen 3 showing sex. I will wait until it has a little puff balls and I will give it the STS to try and form pollen sacks, and self pollinate.

Auto Lemon Kix running behind because it was started so much later. Hoping the timing for this breeding project works out.

Day 24 -

Air temperature 76°

leaf surface temperature 72°

Ambient humidity 68°

Ph 5.8

EC 2.04

MV 426

Only major update today is I got two ExHale mycelium co2 bags and hung them up to complement my fermentation bottle. Maybe one day I’ll run a CO2 tank- but today is not the day.

Day 25 -

Some defoliation today.

Ambient temperature 80°

Leaf temperature 76°

Ambient Humidity 68%

Ph 6.0

EC 2.2

mV 443

Day 26 -

Looking like we might lose the auto daiquiri lime in the top left auto pot

Day 27 -

Moved the auto daiquiri lime up onto a bucket closer to the light. No water in the auto pot, hooked up to the big boy air pump to try and dry the coco and save it. It’s got about 12 hours before I’ve got to move it back into the auto pot base, but at this point, I’ll probably leave that turned off while I go on vacation for eight days.

If I let it dry back it may come back, if I turn that auto pot on… I think it’s over for it.

Everything else looking good though!

Day 28 -

Not much of an update today, had to rush out the door for a busy day before the trip to Maine, auto daiquiri lime in the auto pot is back in its base but I did not turn it on.

I’ll check on it when I get home tonight, but it’s probably just going to have to dry back over that vacation and we will deal with whatever comes of it.

Everything else is chugging right along

Day 29 -

I snagged one last picture with my phone before we headed out the door to come to Maine at 3:30 this morning

Here are a couple of plane pics as well

Love your massive tent mate… lots of space to work with - I’m jealous!

Nice to see someone else who’s got a load of Vivosun kit as well! It’s like tattoos… you get one, then you can’t stop getting more.

Once I realized buying equipment that was TAILORED to a grow tent was far superior to buying equipment designed for general home use and trying to adapt it to a grow tent… game over.

Part of me kind of wishes that when I started the whole thing I had gone AC infinity, but only because they have a few items that Vivosun does not currently have such as substrate monitors. But all in all, I love my Vivosun products and everything they do for me. I have nothing but good things to say about them.

I currently have the new AI controller on pre-order that should be shipping to me sometime in August, and the AI grow cam pro that will be coming next year!

I agree. I started by getting the AC Infinity Cloudcom Temp and Hygrometer, but it gave me loads of trouble. When I complained to AC Infinity, they said they’d replace it for no charge, but the postage was gonna be 3x the price of a replacement unit!

Then after seeing the frightening temp, RH and VPD figures that I was getting, I decided that I needed to cool the tent down.

Living in a tropical climate, high temps have always been my main issue while growing, with humidity being a bastard around late flowering and harvest/drying time.

AC Infinity do an air conditioner, but it isn’t for sale in my country… so I got the Vivosun Aerolush A/C instead, soon followed by an Aerodrain Dehumidifier.

I decided I wanted to grow magic mushrooms, so I got 2x Aerostream Humidifiers (the H05 was too small for my mushies, but great for my early vegging weed, and the H19 is just a powerhouse of humidity for the shrooms), a tent, Temp Hygrometers (that work perfectly), air circulation fans and various other little bits and pieces. The app works great, and the regular sales with discounts are very enticing!

That AI Grow cam sounds incredible!

I like the look of the handheld temp/VPD gun by AC Infinity, and they have wider range of solutions and products. Together with the (IMHO) more stylish appearance of their equipment, you’d think AC Infinity was the ‘better’ company, but I’m more than happy with the quality of Vivosun gear.

My only problem with Vivosun is that for large items like tents and the A/C and Humidity eqpt, they don’t wrap the cartons, so they say GROW TENT etc in huge letters on the box for a totally unstealthy delivery… not great in small towns where everyone knows each other.

Even more annoyingly perhaps is that buying direct from Vivosun is way cheaper than the growshops, but the growshops are a lot more stealthy about things. Grrrrr.

SAME. That arrow lush AC. Just RIPS humidity out of the air though, while simultaneously cooling it down!

I’m really excited for the constant leaf temperature monitoring! That will help me really dial in the temperature and the water transpiration rate! (currently just using an infrared temperature gun to monitor leaf temperature)

Combine that with a new AI control controller and I think next year is going to be a fun one!

i’m really happy to hear that I don’t actually own any AC infinity gear, but I definitely love my Vivosun! You’re making me feel like I’ve made the right choice even more so!

I could not agree more! You would think knowing their target demographic they would do a little more stealth shipping.

Nothing like a giant box that might as well be labeled “ weed growing equipment” left on my front step while I am at work. :grimacing:

All things considered I am still a huge fan though!

Nice to meet another grower who loves their products as much as me!

Barneys strains are outstanding… those that actualy grow that is.

I’ve had horrible germination rates with BF. 1 or 2 out of a 5 pack, dead 3 packs, some mutants that survive, some mutants that don’t.

That said some of my all time favorite strains are from Barney’s. They tend to yield well but when you crunch the numbers 1 or 2 from a 5 pack is friggin expensive.

I hear you there.

The Auto Lemon Kix are Dutch Passion… so in my opinion it doesn’t really get more reputable than that

I have grown a few different strains from them, but all out of their newer plastic packaging.

When I ordered these seeds (auto lemon kix) directly through their USA website, they came in the old metal tin packaging, and that was phased out in 2021, so if I had to guess the seeds I received are minimum of five years old, and although that’s not a particularly long time for properly stored seeds, I’m not going to count out the possibility of Dutch passion improperly storing them at some point in time (hopefully not the case but honestly, I don’t see why else I would have such poor germination rates with them when everything else I popped this run is going beautifully, INCLUDING other Dutch passion seeds that came in the newer packaging)

I really don’t want anyone to think this is me attempting to bash the company in any way, shape, or form.

I simply want to document the entire process, and this has become part of it.

I opened a support ticket with customer support both yesterday and today (I didn’t receive a confirmation when I did it yesterday, so I thought it may not have gone through and I entered a second ticket today)

I still have not heard back from them at all, but I will update everyone when I do!

Here is hoping they can just get me some new beans and I can try again!

Because I really want to use these in my cross with @SAWNEY-BEAN White Gen 3

Jeez. That’s embarrassing. I confused 2 well known Amsterdam breeders!

Don’t know how that happened. Maybe because I was browsing seed catalogues this morning?

I hope you get a response from DP, and I hope they make things right.

Happens to the best of us! Especially when medicated.

I may not be diagnosed dyslexic, but I know I’d be reading shit wrong all the time :dizzy:

I’ve grown BF strains a couple time, but I can’t say as though I particularly remember poor germination rates with them. I think I’ve got orange something or other from them in the seed vault right now.

Id like to use that excuse but tbh I haven’t even toked yet today.

I thought it might be the vendor selling old BF stock because I typically get 100% germs.

Then I remembered a pack from a different vendor ~10 years ago when I got 1 of 3 of Auto Pineapple Express (the pineapple chunk auto, not the sativa)

Never had a problem with Dutch Passion. I had really great Auto Mazar and Jorges Diamond plants and I have Auto CBG Force to plant this autumn.

Where they in the new plastic packaging

Like this? Because I have also never had a problem with these.

This is how I got my Auto Lemon Kix

Older than both. At that time their seeds were in glossy paper packets.

As in you purchased the seeds a long time ago and grew them a long time ago?

Or they were purchased recently and you received very very old packages?

Quick search says the paper packages are pre-2016.

Just curious at this point.

Grew them a long time ago.

OMG. Has it been that long?

Not necessarily.

Like I said it was just a quick Internet search that said that they where discontinued 2016.

But they could have sent you paper packets much later than that.

The same Internet search that said the metal tins were phased out in 2021-2023… but I just received one in 2026.

So honestly, who knows? Lol

I bought them under the counter at the hydro shop, and they were fresh so it probably was 10+ years ago.

Not sure about USA support, but here in Europe support always been top tier, always resulting in a more than satisfying solution to make you happy. Add on top the most interesting talks…

Love your tent size… so much room to work in…

The thing with the indescrete packaging, we get what we pay for. Obviously we don’t pay enough for stealthy or neutral outer packaging. I usually wait for the mailman on days of delivery, run to the car, try to get it from car into the house as fast as possible…
The printed boxes yelling the content inside to the world isn’t even bad for their business, because while we moan, they’ve sold 10 new kits elsewhere…one of those probably because someone read a complain about packaging and still falls for it…

Anyway, good luck and enjoy your project. May the fire come!

I have really good success with Root Riot plugs! Basically 100% success. The only time I e had issues is with old and or damaged/cracked seeds.

I had 100% success with every other strain and every other seed that I started.

Only the Auto Lemon Kix gave me issue.

Started White Gen 3, no issue, Auto Candy Bubatz no issue, Auto Daiquiri Lime no issue….

And let’s not forget the bathroom grow with an additional 10 plants

Three more Auto Candy Bubatz, a 12 Assed Raven, a Blue Dream, an Anvil F9, Sundae Driver, Chem Dawg, Sour strudel, and Turbo de Verano…

ALL 100% germination rate.

I don’t think it’s on me honestly.
