In the next few days I’ll set up a DWC indoor grow with 800w Spider Farmer lights and I’m still choosing the genetics. I have several autos from 42 Fastbuds, but I don’t know if a photoperiod would be the way to go

Welcome to afn! I would suggest an auto with a large yield expectancy. A photo can be done but across the forum there is more knowledge about the method and using autos.

We also have some great breeders on-site; and we just picked up Sebastian (who was actually with Fastbuds the company) just recently, with his new breeding outfit @GoodGenetix , and he may be able to share some insight on those genetics as well.

@Hobbes thanks for mentioning me. I think you can go both ways in DWC… Autos perform really well and Photos as well. Obviously I personally prefer Autos, because people often can’t believe how huge they can get in DWC…
Hi everyone, yesterday I introduced myself here and got way more responses than I expected, so thank you!
I’d really appreciate your help and advice as I get started with my project.
I live in Colombia, and getting good-quality flower in my city is extremely difficult, so I decided to start growing on a larger scale and hopefully reach top-shelf quality if possible. I’m a very analytical person, and I believe the answers are in the data. That’s why I want to set up a 5x5 RDWC system with an automated reverse osmosis (RO) filter and Growee dosing pumps, and use the data from the system as a reference for feeding and managing the grow. My goal is also to eventually develop an app that can help with cultivation.
I currently have one tent with 800W Spider Farmer lights, an exhaust fan, humidifier, and other equipment. I’m going to set up a second tent with the following setup:

(I wanted to go with the Tarantula Borg Evolution Ultra from GML, but they cost around $2,200 USD in my country. I’ve read that they’re totally worth it, but the SE1000W costs me around $1,000 USD hahaha.)

Genetics
As for genetics, I saw that 42 Fast Buds has done several collaborations with Mephisto, and I’d really like to grow Guava Sundae Auto (42 Fast Buds x Mephisto Genetics) just to experiment with that genetic cross. In another 4x4 tent, I’m thinking about growing either Strawberry Gorilla Auto or Lemon Cherry Cookies Auto from 42 Fast Buds.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice. I’ve already been reading through a lot of your grows and learning as much as I can.

You mentioned wanting to grow top shelf bud, I just wanted to throw it out there that spending money on all the growing “toys” doesnt mean you’ll grow top shelf. With that said I myself have spent lots of money on tents and equipment so Im not hating either. Having the right equipment to provide the right environment is important. Growing good weed is more about knowledge and the attention you give your plants.
Obviously someone spending money on their hobby is a good thing, guess Im just warning against getting sucked into distractions of brands selling you all the cool stuff. I was kinda a victim myself.
If youre about to drop some money on a light, maybe look into @AutoGrowerMo lights. Not sure if it would work out for you but I like to keep things in the family as they say
It was said above but I’ll mention it again. We have some auto breeders here on site with websites you could look through. Nothing wrong with fastbuds either. Ive got a handful of strains and several packs of theirs. I just finished a nice gorilla cookies grow and got that strawberry gorilla in the vault myself. One thing I learned to look for in my auto seeds is stability, I want something F2 at minimum. Something thats been worked and crafted into something worth my money.
For $1000 USD probably less I’ll send you a ProTerp 800w with dimmable far red and it’ll blow that spider farmer out the water. The GML is a good light but it’s considerably overpriced for what it is and how much canopy it covers. Only thing you need control of on good lights is the far red. 99% of people especially that grow from seed don’t need and end up with worse results when they start playing with spectrum. I promise you the spectrum engineers know more about how to light a plant than the vast majority of people who have spectrum tuning. It’s place is in labs, and dialing in a specific strain you’re going to run for a long time from clone to squeak the last little tiny bit out of it and then have fixed spectrum lights made that aren’t dog shit effeciency to match what you found the plant best responds under. If neither one of those are your 2 use cases you have no business with the low ppe spectrum tuning fixtures, especially ones that are 1500w each and designed for a 5x5.
I agree with @GasPlease though you don’t need all the expensive fancy stuff to grow top shelf bud.
