Bob's Journey into Hybridisation and Genetics - For Dummies

Day 46 - Junk Dealer's Wedding
looking very nice.
Thanks brother!! I'm quite content myself.
This morning I put the pollinated ladies back into the tent. The pistils had been shriveling more so then on the others. Gave 'm a good shake before removing them from the makeshift growbox. The growbox got opened up and folded flat so I could put in next the the closet. Next time I need it, it'll only take about 5 meter / 15 feet of box tape to get it up and running. 👌
Once inside the tent I made a @St. Tom style video of the preggy mama...🤰

Here she is again...Looks like I have pollinated enough pistils to get me some seeds...Let the rest fatten up to fill my empty jars. :pass:

Have a look at her neighbor...Pistils everywhere and the effect of the UV light is surely showing it's benefit.
I'm running the 30Watt light two times a day for one hour, separated by 12 hours.

Fatten up my pretties ♥

I'm keeping the shorter ladies in the middle of the tent. This way they don't get shaded by anything.

Leaves are starting to crust up really nice. I see trichomes on both sides of the leaves :hump:

This is the larger pheno baby mama, put back into the same place as before.

I feel I defoliated more then enough for these girls to still have enough solar panels for energy and not to many leaves overlapping each other. It's a rope balancing trick in which experience comes just by trying what works and what doesn't...
Btw, the plants are doing a form of self defoliating, choosing larger fanleaves to extract energy from, and using it as a trashcan before being discarded from the plants.

To end today's post...The time lapse...
Speed = 30fps, duration = 48 hours. Enjoy :thanks:

Day 46 - Junk Dealer's Wedding - Spinosad & Boom Boom Spray
Small update for ya guys... :toke:

While shooting the pictures for the update above, I noticed quite some gnats flying around. Since this isn't flying doctors I mixed up some water with Spinosad. I use Conserve Garden from Edialux, as this is the easiest for me to get my hand on. And you don't need much of the product. 0.8ml/L water to be exact. Each pot got 100ml poured directly over the soil. Do this when the soil is already wet, so the product get's taken up by the soil and doesn't run down the side of the pot.
After applying the Spinosad to the soil I decided it was a good idea to spray the ladies one last time with the Boom Boom Spray. I used 1ml/200ml water mixed in a sprayer...More then enough to get every plant soaking wet from top to bottom. Top-tip, First start spraying the underside of the leaves and then continue with the topside.

Even caught myself in the act

Afterwards, I set the extraction fan at 50% and turned on the UV light to keep the temperatures up in the 24°C / 75°F range. This took about an hour and half and now everything is running like before, with that one exception that the extraction fan is turned up by one percent. The act of spraying the plants with the Boom Boom Spray is almost immediately noticeable. The plants get a boost of energy and I hope by doing this the boost will be in the form of more and/or thicker buds...
Anywho...This is the last time I'm using the spray in this grow as at this stage in the grow, there is always a risk for getting mold inside the buds. That's why I wasn't afraid to use my UV light for extra heat. But also for it's relative harmful light spectrum. Everything went from soaking wet to normal in the timespan of 90 minutes. So...I think I'm fine 👌

Hey guys :toke:

Been dreaming about the next breeding projects I want to bite my teeth in...

I've always loved me a nice bud of White Widow and Antonio had been so nice as to provide me with ample seeds to grow 'n show their Auto White Widow in the past. The flavor of the buds was so similar to the White Widow I smoked that season in Coffeeshop Catweazle. Yup, I went to the source and had a talk with the house dealer or how you wanna call it. I tried to get my hands on clones, but he wouldn't have it.
Anywho...This got me thinking. Would I love to get my hands on some regular Auto White Widow? Why yes of course...But I want to recreate everything from scratch.
So I ordered myself a couple of White Widow variants from different old school Dutch Seedhouses...Dutch Passion (fem), Greenhouse Seeds (fem) and The Sjamaan himself is sending me a 5-pack of (reg) Photo White Widow seeds. While ordering I couldn't resist to even get Linda's version of their Photo White Widow, at 4.5€ for three seeds...Come on...We all know these cheap seeds come from reputable breeders with surplus...

The plan is to run all four variants inside the tent, side by side. Again in the 3.5L pots. This will keep the plants small and maneuverable.
I will need some help and advise from some of the Photo experts here reading along. I'm thinking of Antonio and St. Tom to begin with, but other peoples input will be very much appreciated. As growing Photo's is another different ballgame then the easy growing of an Auto...
The male will be coming from the regulars from The Sjamaan, but the selected stud will be pollinating all the females inside the tent. This will provide ample seeds to continue with. From there on I'll be able to select future breeders to be crossed with the Auto White Widow variants I already have in my seed collection. From there on the hard work in stabilizing the Auto trait while keeping all that White Widow goodness will commence. Although, if I run these offspring inside the greenhouse only Auto's will be showing sex as because of the light poisoning a Photo won't flower. This project will thus take place in both the tent and the greenhouse.

What's your thoughts on this you guys? Doable or am I wasting my time?
