Bob's Journey into Hybridisation and Genetics - For Dummies

Don't we all. Just ordered myself a new organizing system to keep all the seeds I collected over the years stored in a safe way. The current one isn't big enough for me...:haha:

Then I suggest you add a weighing post in your blog to finish it up. Green fields await yous my friend ;)
I never considered, but will def add it in going forward. My stash is just personal, however the current crop looking lip smackingly good and terp-train has a pretty loud whistle right about now. i also am curious how much now that I have settled on a pot size and quantity for my space. 1 5Gal, 2 3Gal, 4 1Gal is how future runs should play out. With the 4 1Gal looking supreme (for me anyhow, 2 are my crosses so im hella biased ofc) and offers the greatest variety possibilities… I was intending to add another page or two to my blog last night, but the sandman went UFC/BJJ and choked my ass out qwik.. Ill try again tonight.

If you want to apply for the 'Cultivator Badge', which you do HERE, there's two things you need to finish first.
  1. Start a thread or blog and give, at least, weekly updates from start to finish. ie, pictures & some text from Germination, Seedling stage, Veg stage, Showing Sex, Early Flower, Late Flower, Harvest and Weighing.
  2. Do a review of the cultivar/strain you've grown. Start a new Review in the Genetics section, HERE.
You've already started a blog, but what I can't seem to make out is, if you did a weekly update or post all those blog updates one after another. That's for @blue or @Mossy to figure out I guess
So if the above turns out to be weekly, then you only need to update with the harvest pictures and a weighing update and you're almost done. After a good cure, you can do the Review and then you can apply for the Badge as explained above.

I know, it seems a lot of work, but it's always a good idea to keep a diary of sorts. Why not share that diary with the nice people on AFN? Maybe someone, besides yourself, learns from your mistakes and your successes
Another tip, if you are growing in multiple tents like I assume you are doing, is to keep those in separate threads or make use of the threadmark system. That way the reader doesn't get swept away from one grow into another, which can be quite confusing...

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them here or in your own thread. Just give me or the person you are trying to reach a tag using the "@avatar_name" and most of us come running towards it ;)

Bob :toke:

I thank Ye again.

I only have the one tent (atm.. conspiring my plan to upgrade to two tent: 1 veg/seedling 18 hr tent and a 12 hr ‘Flower’ space ideally) perpetual land dreams. And also yes, its been two grows mashed into one big blog, with a third (total candidate for the badge) which has a cpl of my crosses in and will be harvested in around 3 weeks.

I will plan on those two points for sure, cause i Lurve the folks at AFN💋

hopefully i can get my blog game up on the cultivator banner quest.
you have been a huge help, stay thirsty (by smoking that dank and getting cottonmouth)!

Hey Growers :toke:

So yesterday I pollinated the ladies in waiting. I even tried making a picture from it, but failed miserably :coffee2::haha:

I also pollinated that one branch on the Wedding plant I like so much, but that's for later... Now, let's begin with the Double Grape x Toof Decay. She's seven weeks old and not giving up on producing pistils.
1687375387859 _small.jpg

A pistil production factory, she is...:clapper:
1687375387850 _small.jpg

Even those lowers don't know how to quit...
1687375387843 _small.jpg

Next up we have this gigantic phallic symbol! :condom: Mephisto's Wedding x Coal Miner's Daughter...Oh boy, are we in for a ride, or what?!! :headbang:
1687375387830 _small.jpg

She's going to be ready in about two to three weeks I'm guestimating. In which case, this would make it an amazingly quick auto :woohoo:
1687375387824 _small.jpg

But even at 70 days I would be more then happy with this cultivar...
Her little sister in the 3.5L pot also got dusted with pollen and she looks good to eat
1687375387821 _small.jpg

Finally we have the Mephisto's Wedding twins in the big pot. These girls are really as different as night and day...While my favorite in the front, is a nice and stout girl. Covered in trichome laden leaves and ever expanding budsites, her hind sister is just that...BEhind...
1687375387812 _small.jpg

I won't spare you the difference, but before the ugly I'm gonna show some beauty...
1687375387807 _small.jpg

These will close up ranks and fill out into one large bud.
1687375387803 _small.jpg

Not ready by a long shot, but look at those trichomes
1687375387800 _small.jpg

The hind sister is showing a large internodal spacing and almost marbel sized budsites. Now, I know these will expand...But do I really want to let this girl run until the end? What's you guys' opinion?
1687375387794 _small.jpg

I'm gonna cull it...Come-on you guys, give me a good reason not to... :smokeout:
1687375387789 _small.jpg

This is the main stalk...

Hope to hear your thoughts you guys :thanks:

Well, you could pollinate it and let it grow anyway. No telling what different cannabinoid/terpene profiles could related to the traits you're seeing, or how it will combine with the genetics from the donor. Even if the progeny from the weaker pheno aren't great, the difference between the offspring of the two mother plants could be informative.
Not speaking from experience, but just what my thinking would be in that position.

good reason not to... :smokeout:
grow her out, and chuck some pollen at her, what if she is tastier? My initial thought is to backcross onto original work as many times over as possible as then I pick up more of what the other breeder might have seen

Day 50
First off, thank you for the feedback guys! This is always appreciated :smokeout:

Hey @Bob's Auto's
Great documentation bro and beautiful plants you got there.
Thank you bro!!

I know you guys! What if this cross is thé one...
I made some calculations and I have the feelin' some of them won't be ready before my holiday...So I've come to a conclusion, and that is...I'll keep her and keep her connected to the automated watering system. It's a risk, what if something happens, but it's one I have to take. Don't want to end up with jittery weed as this is no good for my ticker...
The front Mephisto's Wedding will probably be ready, just before I leave of just after. I'm guessing 70-75 days, which would mean about 3 weeks to go for this one...

That pic with the brush… my mind was like ”Maybe its Maybeline” cause you certainly have some lookers. Covergirls in the making for sure.
Well, I tried to make a picture, just like the one I found on Dutch Passion's website, but that didn't turn out the way I tought :haha:
Anyway, these Dutch Passion genetics never seem to disappoint me...Every year I've grown multiple cultivars out of their catalogue and they are always fire.

Stout looking branches on this girl Bob....
:pass:
Thank you bro!
They do look nice don't they. Cool thing is, and I've said it multiple times, I have no clue what I'm doing, but BioTabs does and as long as I only have follow a simple how-to and get these results I'm gonna keep using their nutrient line ♥

On with the show...Let's begin with our New Man's cross...Mephisto's Wedding x Coal Miner's Daugher...Oh yummie....This girl will not be there to show us out when we leave on holiday. She's not ready yet, but will most likely be the first to come down...Never had a cultivar cost me so little time from start to finish, but this one is doing it none the less
Tell me bro, was it luck of did you do it on purpose???
1687544723978 _small.jpg

I've been reading up on the whole Gnome Genetics (used to be Mandalorian Genetics). This guy has some history with this forum and it's old guard. Always have been interested in the Anvil from this line, but for one reason or another always fished behind the net on that one.
Now I can play with it's cousin and boy, what a combination of old school cultivars have been inserted into this cultivar!!
1687544723968 _small.jpg

Also, this one is a freakin' fast cultivar...Being only fifty days old she's nearing the finishline first or second...We'll have to see the photofinish :eyebrows:
1687544723963 _small.jpg

Following right behind her is the front Mephisto Wedding sister. This one is very heavy on the trichomes and this from early on!
Her hind sister is most likely a +100 days pheno of the cultivar. Maybe @stan_mephisto can bless us with his immense knowledge and tell something more? :thanks:
1687544723957 _small.jpg

I can only dream about all that grease that will ooze out of my rosin press when this one is finished...
1687544723952 _small.jpg

Freakin' healthy plants they are, running on them BioTabs :hump:
Say Stan, I've read you guys also ran with BioTabs in the day. I presume you've stopped with their nutrient line after the move to the States, right?
What do you guys run these days? Still organic or gone the other way?
1687544723946 _small.jpg

Boing!!! :woody:
1687544723940 _small.jpg

To end today's post I still have to show you guys the Double Grape x Toof Decay.
1687544724005 _small.jpg

Nice top cola in the making...Pistil poppin' and expanding at the same time...Sweet!!
1687544723999 _small.jpg

Loads of budsites. Surely hope all of them will expand like a overinflated balloon.
1687544723993 _small.jpg

Gonna shut up now
