I've got quarts goin and will update today - just transferred one to a half gallon. Using restaurant/deli containers. Baby airstones and netcups from amazon, big thing of floraflex line, floraflex "T's", air pump. The T's let you run multiple air stones from each spout off the pump.
So far everything is going super smooth but I'll tell you from experience with 5gal buckets that plants can drink a ton later on in life. With the big buckets you can comfortably go away for a weekend.
Bonus pointer: bartending equipment is super helpful for me with DWC. Tall spoons, measuring cups with nice pour spouts, etc. My #1 favorite thing is a classic "stor N pour" - a half gallon plastic container with a nice long pour spout. Perfect for top feeding, so easy to reach into any corner of a tent and navigate around the jungle.
