Hello everyone. I'm going to be switching to hydroponics (specifically deep water culture) in the next few weeks, but I have a few questions. There are a few things that I'm not sure about and this is all part of my research before I finally make the switch from soil to hydro :)

So here is what I want to know.

Question 1: I have a Secret Jardin DR60 (tiny I know) to grow in, so my space is limited. I will be using a 20 liter reservoir. If my plants grow nearly too big for the tent, how can I control it? I'm thinking ScrOG.

Question 2: I intend to be growing with a full Advanced Nutrients line up. Here is what I am thinking of using.

Grow: Sensi grow part A + B (is Voodoo juice/Jungle juice/Iguana juice better?)
Bloom: Sensi bloom part A + B (anything better?)
Supplements: Carboload, Sensizym, Bud Candy, Big Bud, Voodoo Juice root booster, liquid CalMag supplement, Overdrive, Formulex (is there anything else I should use that can maximize my yield, or should I use less/different products?)
Utilities: pH+, pH-, Final Phase (for flushing)

Question 3: If I'm using a 20 liter reservoir, will I need another 20 liter reservoir for when the time comes to changing it? How exactly do I change it? Is it just a matter of lifting the lid with the plant in it from one reservoir to another? Also that must mean I have to carry a 20 liter pot of water around from the sink to my grow area, right?

Basically what I'm asking is do I have to prepare another 20 liter reservoir with water/nutrients and swap it with the other one?

Question 4: Now this is the most important one. How exactly do I feed my plant? Is it just a matter of putting in what it says on the tin?

Example: My plant is X days old and has just gone through the rockwool and pebbles and the roots are just about touching the reservoir. Advanced nutrients recommend 4ml/L of Sensi grow. If I were to use a quarter strength, that would be 1ml/L, so a total of 20mL for a 20 liter tub. Is this correct? Would I just do that with all my nutrients?

Question 5: I will be using the new Grow Northern LED panels when they are released next month. It is likely my tent will get cold. Is there some kind of programmable tube heater that will stop heating when temperatures reach 85°F?

Question 6: Last one :) Here is a little shopping list, can anyone tell me if I am missing anything please?

-2x 20 liter bubbler buckets with 2x mesh pots
-Rockwool cubes
-Air stones (which sizes are suitable for a 20 liter bucket? Do I need one stone per bucket?)
-Air pump (20 litres/minute, or would one that shifts more air/minute be better?)
-Clay pebbles

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me :)

Billy :smokebuds:good luck bro

A1)Scrog wont work mate ... you need to remove the bucket & plant for cleaning & res changes once a week .Check Duggy LST in a small tent with big yields .
Question 2: I intend to be growing with a full Advanced Nutrients line up. Here is what I am thinking of using.

A2)Sounds like you got the lot bro:Cushty:

A3),Spare bucket is a must to swap resies just like you say ...& a top up bucket for when there big & feeding lots

Question 4: Now this is the most important one. How exactly do I feed my plant? Is it just a matter of putting in what it says on the tin?

A4)I'll let some who uses the range answer that 1 ...but 0.8 EC plus your background EC is a good starting point for babys ?. PH 5.5-5.6

Question 5: I will be using the new Grow Northern LED panels when they are released next month. It is likely my tent will get cold. Is there some kind of programmable tube heater that will stop heating when temperatures reach 85°F?

A5) I would wait & rest temps out before getting something you may not need bro ... a small mini thermostatic radiator is good for control if you can fit it in there ? I had one just outside by the air intake & that helped a lot with temps ?.

Question 6: Last one :) Here is a little shopping list, can anyone tell me if I am missing anything please?

-2x 20 liter bubbler buckets with 2x mesh pots :check:
-Rockwool cubes:check:
-Air stones (which sizes are suitable for a 20 liter bucket? Do I need one stone per bucket?):check:one spare is good for bubbling the fresh res & mixing the nutes up before the swap
-Air pump (20 litres/minute, or would one that shifts more air/minute be better?):check:20lpm should be plenty for a dr60
-Clay pebbles:check:

A decent EC & PH Meter is essential Billy :key:

Select seeds that dont get huge!
Yes scrog is possible!

Seems ok, mabey some silica-supplement( final phase mm:no:)

No place a small pump inside your tank( thats the way I do it!)
Personally I never completely empty my thank to keep micro-biologie:2cents:

No start with a fourth of the strength of everything and try to monitor ph ec and temp as much as possible!

Question 5: I will be using the new Grow Northern LED panels when they are released next month. It is likely my tent will get cold. Is there some kind of programmable tube heater that will stop heating when temperatures reach 85°F?

Sure-thing!

Is enough!

-Clay pebbles

Better take 2 air-stones in-case one gets clogged:GoooAuto:
The small waterpump and PH and Ec-meter!

Good-luck!:karma Cloud:

Thank you both very much for your answers, both are very helpful :) I've already got an EC and pH meter so one less thing to worry about.

I've got some liquid silicone, is that the same as silica? Silica is usually a gel if I'm not mistaken, have I got the right product here? http://www.growell.co.uk/liquid-silicon.html

And Soylent Green, you said you use a pump to change reservoirs? How do you mean? Do you just remove all the water from one and put it in the other, then bring back a fresh res and pump it back in? :)

Liquid silicone :gthumb:

The pump is placed in the bottom of the reservoir and the cable and tube come out of the reservoir when I want to change the reservoir I pump the liquid out in a bucket!
Afterwards I pour my new solution again in thought the hole using a funnel!

Brilliant, well that makes things a whole lot easier :) All I need now is a better idea of how to correctly feed my plants, that's the only part I'm having real trouble with :(

In the begin just use demi-water and root-stimulator!

slowly build up your EC and in veg PH 5.7 in bloom PH 6.0

Less is more, dont overdose on the supplements carefully measure use a pippet!

I first add pure water to the reservoir and then I start dripping small amounts in while the EC meter is standing in the reservoir!
Once I get the EC right I place the ph meter inside and start adding PH + or -to get it right!

first weeks only basic feed and enzyme rootstim and silica:GoooAuto:

Awesome, thanks :) Just gonna bump this back up, any more input is appreciated! It's all good research for me :)

Here's a little shopping list, if anyone could give me their opinions on what I've found and if it's all suitable that'd be great :)

20 litre/minute air pump: Here
DWC bucket: Here
Air stones: These, these or these?

Do I need any kind of tubing or parts or anything else like that?

Now as for the whole 'changing res' thing, I'm not sure if my funds will allow for a decent pump to transfer water around. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a cheap one that will do the job?
Is it literally just 'attach pump to blue tube on reservoir, drain water, fill with new reservoir using pump'?

One more question too. With all my nutrients, I've highlighted ones I think I may not need. (highlighted in bold, italic and underlined)

Grow: Sensi grow part A + B
Bloom: Sensi bloom part A + B
Supplements: Carboload, Sensizym, Bud Candy, Big Bud, Voodoo Juice root booster, liquid CalMag supplement, Overdrive, Formulex
Utilities: pH+, pH-, Final Phase (for flushing)

Do I NEED carboload? Will it make a difference to my yield?
Do I NEED sensizym?
Do I NEED Bud Candy/Big Bud? Aren't they almost the same anyway? Will using both instead of one or the other make a big difference?
Do I NEED Voodoo juice root booster? It's really expensive. How would Canna Rhizotonic work out instead?
