Grow Mediums Gorilla Tape to Block Water?????

Hey guys. Has anyone else noticed yellowing problems with Vertigo? I have Vertigo and Vertigo x Speedy Gonzales growing next to one another, getting the same treatment. Vertigo is definitely more yellow at less than a month old. I'm now treating with Mg, but see no change. I'll try Ca soon. Could it be something else? And is this a strain characteristic? Thanks for any help. This thread has been a real help.

grown hundreds and not had an issue

got pics and more info , maybe we can help

Hey, b0b, great, and good to meet you! Thanks for your response, and sorry I wasn't more snappy about it. I don't seem to get post announcements by email and I'm new around here. I just took this photo of Vertigo (left) next to Vertigo x Speedy Gonzales (right):

The nutes (GH Flora series) and media (coir/perlite) are the same for both. I've added SuperThrive for both. Recently added some Epsom salts for magnesium. Might do calcium soon. The biggest difference between them is container size. The Vertigo is in a gallon hempy-style container. Started it from seed, just dropped into the coir. The VxSG is in a smaller container that it has outgrown. They are 4 weeks old FS, though the Vertigo took 3 days longer to emerge. The Vertigo was well behind the VxSG until the last week, which it has now surpassed in size. But, as you can see, it is a yellower plant. Gotta get that hybrid into a large pot, today!

I posted this after seeing the [more severe] yellowing problem that Alex showed with his Vertigo, and which is why I ask about the strain. Thanks for your thoughts.

both pots appear too small , and the yellowing i believe is a deficiency , you mentioned coco right ? that plant will require different feeding , i dont think alex had an issue with all his vertigo being yellow , just a couple , but maybe im mistaken , will need him to chime in here

honestly speaking though i had no issues with the vertigo except it took lots of tightly grouped plants to get the grams pm2 that is advertised , i believe there is a fine line between too small a pot and too large with vertigo

the quality though is very high imo

Thanks for taking a gander, b0b, and for the feedback. Yep, just starting out. Everything's an experiment at this point. The only other MJ I grew was South American bag weed, and it grew great in coco! Too well. Got too big. But it was a good experience and sold me on the virtues of coco coir. No problems with the plants at all. I'll get those guys in larger quarters. Just taking that picture showed me how dwarfed the VxSG has gotten. Kind of a shock, really. Gotta go repot, right now!

Update

Quick update: added Ca to Vertigo and it's greening up. No other strains affected like this. Repotted Vertigo x Speedy Gonzales and its growth picked up immediately. It is now flowering, with Vertigo just starting to flower.

As a first experience with AFs, this has been fantastic, especially when compared to bad weed. Not that the bag weed was bad, because it was cool growing it up. But these guys just get to work and flower so quickly, staying dense and compact. I love 'em!

I had yellowing and plants did not do all they could size wise, because I used way under sized pots with hydro. 6 X 6 inch (tapered more at bottom). The V X SG did way better in production. Would like to see what each could do in adequate pots. Regarding quality, even though I screwed up, it is exceptional. Sure a proper grow would show even more potential!!!

I can not believe the results you have on first or second grow. I am sold on soilless!!! They can easily be moved into free extreme light, and under lights other times. Also I spend so much time time plumbing feed and drain, and dealing with leaks.

I need to learn to read plant problems, instead!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best of luck!!!!

Here is a new blueberry, started off hydro, and moved to coir.

Nice growth on the BB. It'll be interesting to see how it goes in its new, coiry home. Is the coir easier for you, and how does it perform? I ask because I've been impressed with it, but I've never compared with hydro since I haven't cranked up my aeroponic unit yet.

Hey, update on the Vertigo that I posted a few back on this thread. In growth stage, adding calcium seemed to help green it up from the yellowish tinge it was getting. But when I switched the nutes to FloraBloom, after flowering was in full swing, I had bright yellow fan leaves appear. I've treated more with calcium and molasses, with not effect. I'm now adding a little more nitrogen to the mix but see no changes yet. On the whole, the plant is healthy.

Vertigo compared with Vert x Speedy Gonzales: Vertigo seems bushier and slight bigger, but slower in all growth and flowering. VxSG has grown strong and fast. Here she is at 65 days FS.

plants are looking good Seeder , im at a loss as to why you guys got the yellowing in the vertigo's , maybe i just got lucky with them , i grew them in my veg area at 40-60 at a time , but being in the veg room i didnt pay much attention to them

maybe they dont like all the lovin you guys give em compaired to the lack of attention i gave ?

lookin pretty good though id say , they dont look to be suffering other then the few large fan leaves , i highly doubt the outcome will be effected by it

peace Cool:
