I couldn't find where this has been discussed before so I thought I'd try here.

I've run into bud rot on two different auto grows, both of them 'Northern Lights'. I'm guessing because this plant yields thick, densely budded colas.

I find it easy to detect and remove bud rot sites... but I'm wondering... what are the dangers, if any, of smoking, vaping or eating bud rotted weed?
Or does it just taste bad, or doesn't get you high, or reduces harvest, or gives a harsh smoke?
Or is it toxic?

I wouldn't use a chunk of rotted bud, but I could have overlooked a bit of it here or there, even though I'm being careful.

It cause cause spores to enter your lungs and or allergic reactions. I've water cured it which removes the flavor and smell but it isn't something I'm in the habit of doing.

If you're getting BR then it isn't really the cultivar that is the issue but that your environment isn't consistent, within VPD, and or lacking air circulation.

Very quick replies... nice.
Seems like a bit of mold wouldn't be a problem for me. But I will still be vigilant about removing every bit I can.

I grow outdoors exclusively so I'm mostly at the mercy of Mother Nature. The first time I had bud rot I had no idea about it and it infested a significant chunk of my yield. That year we had some uncharacteristic August rainfall. This year we had some unusual heat and high humidity for quite a while in August.

I kept an eye out for any unexplained sugar leaves dying suddenly. Almost a dead giveaway. I was able to nip it in the bud, so to speak.

Dr Zymes and CEASE are two products that can be used to harvest for treating mold. I'd definitely like at some high mold resistant strains to accommodate your location. Maybe even look into some sativas, named by growth structure not type of high, as they can possess high mold resistant with less foliage than some of their broadleaf counterparts.

I'm not sure of the types of mold that grow on cannabis, but from remembering my industrial hygiene classes from the days of yore. As a rule of thumb, you really don't want to put other biological agents in your body unless you know what they are and their specific effects.
It may not hurt you, but someone that is allergic to that specific mold, it could be deadly.
