Photography growers screwed by af's not fully stabalized !

In my personal situation autoflowers are the best choice. I have found that the enviorment must be adjusted for autos differently. ie. using a medium for sprouting that contains no fertilizer has been found to increase plant size and yield...probly because autos do not need to feed heavily while developing a strong root structure...deeper pots ,special soil mixes, different lighting cycles for different strains....the ability to recognize plant problems and act quickly and correctly is vital to a productive grow as the vegitative stage of growth is only so long with an auto. ..
I could go on and on,but...read a few threads and check out some of the real results by real people.

I have never really bought any seed that were a rip-off,in fact I always got freebies thrown in for free. I did have a few I mistreated and over-ferted or had temp control issues, but that was all my doing.

Many of the big seed banks, like Nirvana, got caught with their pants down regarding autos. In their haste to cash in they rushed strains to market before they were ready. The results were hermies and plants not auto flowering. Most have gotten those issues resolved at this point. I've not heard of any problems with Nirvana seeds for some time, at least a year or more. The best advice I can give is to stay with seeds from reputable auto breeders like Stitch, LBH and Mossy. Copies are also an issue. Some of the big seed banks just took strains from other breeders, copied and renamed them, and put them out for sale. They have not maintained the same quality control that the original breeders did. In some respects autos are a bit too easy to breed, resulting in people with no real understanding of breeding calling themselves breeders and putting crap on the market.

If in doubt, ask here. With the volume of members and associated grows we have here you're bound to find someone with experience with a particular strain.

muddy this is all true , and it dosn't soud like you have been screwed, but the fact is that many new growers out there have and why, because autoflowers are new, and not everyone is being honest with the beans they are putting on the market.

I have had such good results growing from the seeds from out local breeders club that I wonder why there isn't more local breeder's clubs popping up. This spring I only planted a few seeds from seed companies the rest came from the local Breeder's club or my own private stock. Of course I am doing some more breeding this year. If I was to offer advice I would say form your own local breeder's clubs and see what you come up with. We have a Fall smokeoff and a Spring seed swap meet. We also have a sworn secrecy of members and a fifty dollars a year dues that goes into our club legal fund to help protect members. One of the members is in charge of providing a list of doctors in the area who lokk favourably apon signing our Canadian medical mariuanna forms for Health Canada.

I totally find the quality of our Breeder's Club to be the best seeds I get from anywhere.

the point of this thread is not to shit on auto,s but to call out the so called breeders that are putting autos on the market that don't flower under 24 hours of light. remember that we are quality control!

There are alot of lazy lowryder crosses out there that is for sure. Im still working out the wheat from the chaff. I don't personally blame the seed companies for the plants ability to snook in their own genes and produce randoms but i do blame them for hiring out joe bloggs to mass produce mere unstable crosses. As mentioned above its all relatively new territory so even the pro's are amature at best. p.s. Sagamartha super skunk auto sexed at day 30, now at day 46 still no signs of flowering on 16/8. Anyone know of this strain?

Seems that no one grows the Sagamartha autos, at least here at AFN. They had a lot of problems with their strains not auto flowering and it seems that they still are. Perhaps it was some old stock. I think they were another one who rushed their seeds to market to cash in before they were full auto stabilized.

I'm sorry vitruvius, but I must disagree with you on this. there is material on breeding availible, and not that hard to understand. This isn't a matter of understanding its a matter of greed, and stabalizing a cross isn't about having a massive I.Q it's about taking the neccesary time required. maybe you should do some research so you can better understand. I hope you don't think i'm calling you out. good luck and take care :peace:

btw back crossing to the lowryder brings out more lowryder so take your time and line breed for more of the photo plants potencey!

Well, my joint doctors diesel ryder is 12weeks old and still isn't flowering :D Bought two seeds, one died 3 days after sprouting, this one is doing well except it isn't flowering at 4th-5th week like it is supposed to.

Aside from the usual pheno suprises, like one giant plant among a crop of dwarfs, I have had pretty good luck with autos.

One strain I got from Sweet Seeds never germinated, I don't
remember the name, but I have grown other Sweet Seed strains with no problem.

My current grow was four Nirvana Jock Horror, and two Queen AK-47, bought from Herbie's.

For a few weeks they were the prettiest and healthiest plants I have ever grown. I was really happy.

Then things got weird.

The AK-47 started to flower normally, but the Jock never showed any sign of sex or flowers. Instead they grew these huge fan leaves about 18 inches across. The biggest I had ever seen. Then the main stalk and side shoots shot up into the lights.

All of a sudden, in a matter of a few days, they went from perfectly shaped healthy plants to bare sticks with clumps of vegetation on the very top and those huge fan leaves filling up the grow space.

They were overshadowing the AKs which were already beginning to form nice buds, and it was too late to try and do any manipulation of the plants as the stems on the Jocks had swelled to about 3 inches across. The AK stalks were normal for the size of the plants.

It was as if the Jocks got some kind of growth hormone shot that sent them on that crazy growth spurt, but not into flowering.

I ended up chopping them all down.

Then I was able to bend the AK-47s into a position where they were no longer crowded and received more light. The buds started to grow upward and are getting fat and sticky.

It's almost time to get out the scope and check the trichs.

So all ends well, but I sure hated to sacrifice those big Jocks.
