Focusvape Pro
I recently bought and posted a review of the Focusvape standard model, a damn fine vape in my book, especially at a retail price of $119.00. I planned to replace my DaVinci Ascent but the deal fell through and I didn't have $199 to spend.
I Decided to look for the Focusvape Pro a minor upgrade from the Focusvape by adding digital controls and upping the max temp about 15 degrees to 445F.
The pro has the same, nice clean design with an excellent silicone skin that feels like leather! No cold plastic or metal to handle! The oven is all ceramic and this vape is a hybrid conduction/convection vaporizer, giving you the best of both systems. The oven holds about .3-.4 grams, a good load.At 385F I get about 10-12 hits before I get that popcorn taste. I've pushed it beyond that and still didn't burn the weed. It did get dark brown.
The mouth piece is silicone rubber with a removable glass tip. The mouth piece screws on, a nice touch in my book, it can't fall off. Inside the inner mouth price opening is a metal screen holder. Behind it is a ceramic filter . They work fairly well. I however prefer my draws to have low restriction to the airflow so I remove the stock screen and filter. I remove the glass tip and push a .375 screen in the opening and seat it with a packing tool.
I also drop a screen into the chamber on top of the ground bud. I've found this gives great airflow and big hits! And the oven can keep up! That was my concern when I first tried this, I figured they designed in the restriction. It is most certainly not needed! I know some people however, prefer some moderate restriction
Vapor is what we are after. And Vapor you'll get! Good, clean, tasty and plentiful vapor! This vape with my mods can make some great clouds! And you can get a bong adapter for it. I use my Focusvape with my bong every evening now! I just remove the glass tip, the mouthpiece seals the bong nicely.
The focusvape and thew pro both use removable, 18650 batteries, one of the main features I was looking for in a portable. I learned a valuable lesson about batteries in these too. DON'T think you'll use cheap ones in it! I tried and it was disappointing and possibly dangerous for the vape. 2 out of 4work but have short charge life compared to the originals. 2 made the vape act weird, wouldn't come to full temp without shutting off, suddenly quiting, etc. Buy exact replacements for your vapes. Be careful who you buy them from too, there are counterfeits out there.
here are the batteries I'm getting now:
LG INR18650 HG2 20A RECHARGEABLE High Drain Batteries 3000mAh
Buy a good battery charger too. I have 3 that came with vapes or batteries......only one works....
The Focusvapes come with a USB cable. use it. Some of my usb cables don't fit it right, i don't know why. Haven't tried other cables on the Pro yet.
All that remains is long term testing. This thing is built like a tank. I expect a good, long life from it.
The Focusvape and pro are about the size of a cigar. They fit nice and comfortably in your hand. The digital controls are fairly easy to use. Press either button three times to turn it on. next, select F or C readings. Then, select your temp with the plus/minus buttons. press twice to turn on the oven. press both buttons twice to turn off.
The Focus vape pro will stay active for 5 minutes, then go into standby for 3 minutes before turning off. Press and hold a button to turn the oven on again.
The air intake is also adjustable so you can control draw this way. I just run with all the holes open. The ring around the ports turns to expose or cover the air holes.
I must say, the only complaint I've had is the airflow and if you like lots of airflow, just use my mods, you'll be very pleased!
This dry herb vape just can't be beat in its price range of $100-$150. You can get wax/oil tanks for it too. The pro with the higher temps works pretty well with concentrate, not something you can say about many vape that cost much more!
I think instead of buying another DaVinci later I'll get an Arizer Extreme Q desktop instead!
