Lighting Vero 29 DIY Build

Making a 190W Lamp with cheep Meanwell LPC 100W drivers and Bridgelux Vero 29 3500K 80 CRI COB LED and Khatod Silicone Optics for a even coverage in a 2x2.5 tent

List of Parts

1. 2x Khatod 90 Silicone
   
2. 2x Bridgelux Vero 29 3500K 80 CRI
   
3. 2x Meanwell LPC100-2100
4. Junction box and PG7/PG9 cable glands
   
5. 18AWG AC Power Cable
   
6. 140mmx80mm Passive cooling Pin Heatsinks
   
7. Aluminum L channel
   
8. Some Wagos 222 and screws

Drilled a few holes. No tapping was needed in this project.
Soldering was also required in this build


Making a junction box. You can get them on ebay for under 10 dollars.
Drilled a hole and made it wide with a scissor. Hole saw would be even better.
I used PG7 Cable Glands for LPC drivers AC wires. Meanwell HLG Driver's AC wire fits with PG9 cable gland if it is AWG18. If HLG DC side is 16 AWG then PG11
I am using PG 9 for 18 awg AC power cord.

Cleaned heatsink with isopropyl alcohol pad

Used stencil method for thermal paste application. Artic Silver thermal paste

Trying to keep paste away from silicone lens.


Optional Thread locking
Blue Loctite for temporary thread locking. Do not want to use permanent red Loctite


Added some liquid electrical tape on solder points. Wire sleeve and heatshrink on wire

Heatsink center is 55C and heatsink edge near the wire is 50C. Would have been nice if there are a little more clearance between the heatsink and driver wires.

I'm loving your build and the the step by step photographs, very nice

I am looking forward to to seeing more of your builds, I know they will really help our members and hopefully inspire more people to start DIY builds as they catch the DIY LED bug!!

I also like the silicone lenses, they must save a fair bit of weight compared to the glass lenses.

I was wondering, how much did it cost to build this light?

The silicone lens weight less, don't get scratched easily and don't crack. Khatod recommends using mild soap water to clean them if needed. The biggest benefit of these Khatod silicone lens is the amazing uniform light spread it creates. It creates a Type V light distribution pattern , which means circular distribution with same intensity at all angles.

Glass lens and reflectors are easier to work with and are more cost effective.

This build was 190 watts for just under $200. Does not include shipping as I already had all these parts.

I have a similar 2 cob build with meanwell HLG-120H-C1400, 120mm pin heatsinks, citizen CLU048 18xx cobs, reflector. This is is about $150 not including shipping cost. I like it better as it has dimming option. I will share a few pics later this evening. About 160 watts

I added a Thermocouple display on top to monitor case temperature of COBs.

Cree cob design is possible too

Thermal pads make assembly easier.
Here is cree 3590 with thermal pads, bender writh holder and silicone optics. Testing with HLG -120H- 42

I'm Loving these lights, I can't wait to see you post more about them.
These are configurations that show different chips and lenses that most people haven't seen before in the forums!
Those are some great prices for the Wattage lights you have although I do realize they don't include postage and packing.
Keep them coming and I'll keep reading & liking!
