Tent Questions

Hi all...I didn't see anything specific on tent set ups and so forth...

So I'm going to sticky this thread for any questions and answers that you members with tents, can answer...

Also, if you have any pics of how your tent is set up, please post them...Pictures say a 1000 words...
Basically, as far as pics go, mostly looking for how yours is set up...Not so much about the plants...

Thanks for your cooperation and I hope this thread gets the attention that new tent buyers, like myself, can gain some info...:peace:

Hi Gantsa, I think I understand what you're saying. It sounds like a very long way to run exhaust, so I think you just need a bigger fan. One filter should be enough for most grows I think. So you could just keep the extra filter as a backup for later. So if you get a bigger 600 or 700m3/h exhaust fan, because of the long distance it has to go, will have enough backpressure so it should be okay to use with a 300m3/h filter and be okay. You could also get a fan speed controller (Blueprint makes one, there's many companies that make them) and run the 700 fan at 1/2 or 3/4 speed. : ) That sounds like a good layout with all that.

I agree with that, its good to have a back up filter anyway, you should get a bigger fan

I finally added a new 800 m3/h exhaust running at 3/4 and i placed just one of the 350m3/h filters. It worked fine in the begining of flowering. I have to test it again now that im in full flowering cause maybe some of the smell escapes, but i think its enough.
So now i have an intake of 350m3/h fresh cold air, and exhaust at ~600. The temps are perfect under 600hps, without glass hood, at 40cm from canopy.

cheers to all

Just purchased a 4x4x8 mars grow tent and 2 Mars II 700 LEDs can't wait for it to get here and get her set up and start this new dream hobby. One question though I plan on doing passive intake and then venting out of a window that is not 2 from where the tent will be located. I'm looking for as quiet a fan/filter setup as I can get. When I purchase an I vent fan and say it has 250cfm or 300cfm does my corresponding carbon filter that the air will be getting pulled thru does it need to match the CFM of the fan? Or does it need to be more or less? A buddy at work suggested a little less so it would be easer on the running of the fan? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Good luck with the set up. I just bought another extraction fan but only noticed after it arrived that the fan cfm was slightly higher than the carbon filter. It works great, but I'm not too sure what would be recommended. @Fuggzy gave me a lot of help understanding tent/fan requirements, but not sure if he's around at the mo

Was looking at a hyper fan 6 inc digital mixed flow fan 315 CFM attached to a phresh 6 x 16 400 CFM Carbon filter, I'd turn the fan down to about 30% for noise. Would this setup work for my 4x4x7 tent?

Hey there cat, how are you doing?

So with fans and fiter matching your filter cfm rating should exceed your fan rating. If the fliters rating is smaller, the air will pass through the carbon to fast to get properly scrubbed. Now the best thing you can do, and really should just for convenience later on (rushing air makes a lot of noise), is get a fan speed controller. The one I use is a Ventech, and can be found on amazon for ~$17, just search "fan speed controller." There is one a bit cheaper by Active Air, and people report it working just fine also, I think it is ~$15.

They give you the option to basically go from 0-100% power. Although there is no need to go that low. I normally stay in the range of 70-100%. If you want to do the math for your fan speed needs, you should look for a filter at 133% the size of the fans cfm.

Hope that helps some. take care. ;)

Can you be more detailed about your duel fan configuration please. The hyper 6 is nice, what is the other fan for? Are you talking about 2 fan in general, sorry I may be confused... Phresh filters are nice, but expensive. If money is of concern you can get the same performance from cheaper brands. Also 30% fan speed is pretty low. Thats only ~100 cfm. What is the cubic area you are working with? You should be able to cycle the air in the room/tent 3 times per minute. 100cfm would be about what you would want for 33.3 cubic feet.

@Fuggzy Hey mate, I knew you'd be of help. That also answers my own questions about fan/fliter capacity. Nice one, thanks. I'll be grabbing one of those fan controllers.

My tent will end up being 138 cubic feet, and it's just the one fan a hyper fan 6inch 315cfm for outtake. The only reason I wanna turn the fan down at all is to just control a bit of the noise.

It sounds like a fan controller would work well in your set up and would certainly reduce noise
