Brooklyn Sunrise & Purple Gorilla. grow #2

Welp, my first start up grow after a year went well, always learning always being a bit surprised. It's why I hesitate to do anything with regards to UV lights or any other stuff, it's because I see so much variation in growth in identical conditions that I would never be able to be sure if whatever supplement I did to the grow that it was what I did or it would have happened anyway. So there is a certain peace of mind in keeping everything ultra super simple, there's enough variables as it is.

Still trying to work out how to organise my new space which is basically a 3 foot by 5.5 foot space inside of a larger walk in wardrobe! My first grow was two in one pot, BlackBerry Kush and Jedi Kush. I'm considering now to have two plants growing six weeks apart with a harvest every six weeks. However I've already got two new beans underway which are 5 days apart so I'm still thinking about stuff. I'm tempted to try growing a plant that is not topped. There's all sorts of side by side tests I'd like to do for my own knowledge but that's all sometime in the future. My main aim is to keep everything as simply and clean and zen as it is possible to do in my situation.

I was going to plant both in one pot again, so instead of planting the bean that popped first I waited till the next morning by which time something had completely devoured my seedling. I now couldn't plant them together so I planted the late popping bean and set a new bean in motion. Thing is that I got the beans mixed up so I did not know if it was the Purple Gorilla or the Brooklyn Sunrise that got eaten. After some forensic bean analysis I concluded it was the Purple Gorilla that got done but because I was not sure I planted the tiniest of the three beans I had, which is interesting because it turns out to be a very strong fast and vigorous bean, so that's that myth dispelled.

They are different looking plants and they are growing true to form the Brooklyn Sunrise grows similarly to their Blackberry Kush that is stubby and rigid, whereas the Purple Gorilla is more delicate with cleaner branches and more space. I used to really like these Dutch Passion muscle plants but I'm becoming more partial to bendy open less dense plants like the Short Stuff stuff I've seen so far.

Both beans were able to be topped at 14 and 15 days at the fourth node. Recovery was swift and strong.

Colour Code:
Orange and Yellow marbles and labels for the Brooklyn Sunrise bean and Blues and Purples for the er... Purple Gorilla.

Will add pages as the grow continues

Mar 23 Update.

Brooklyn Sunrise is 23 Days old today and Purple Gorilla is 5 days younger although it sort of doesn't matter any more as purple gorilla is already looking larger.

See how much more open the Gorilla is 23 March - 2 (1).jpeg than the very tight Brooklyn 23 March - 3 (1).jpeg.

A Foolish Update

April 1 seems like a good as time as any but first a quick and dirty debrief. When we last checked in both plants had been recently topped. Purple Gorilla took to this like a rat up a drainpipe, just absolutely powered on and past the hapless Brooklyn Sunrise, which is doing that Dutch Passion thing that their plants do. She's too squat and bushy to manipulate too much so I'm just doing my best to open her up and wait and see what happens during the stretch.

Purple Gorilla though is looking like she is going to be an absolute monster, but you never know. Both plant have gone for the Twin Towers formation where there is a ring of lower branches neatly arrange around the twin towers. However I've just started bending the Gorilla towers over a bit because I'm playing it by ear.

Let The Flowering Begin...

Brooklyn Sunrise update.

Ok what's been happening the past two weeks. Let's see Brooklyn Sunrise has remained at 11 inches while Purple Gorilla is threatening all sorts of drama.

OK here's shots from the past two weeks, of mainly Brooklyn, I'll add another page for the Gorilla. This one just stopped at week 4 with no growth spurt, first time for me, she looks like a potted plant. Anyhoo these shots are in date order from the past couple of weeks, I did a couple of major defoliations but not much since due to not much growth, did a bit of cleaning up the undergrowth today and stretching the branches a bit more open, but there's not much more I can do. Gonna wait and see what happens now. Looks like she might be very chunky.

I have also just started using Green Planet Massive the past week, seeing as I'm changing over to GP from GH as I can't get GH easily any longer. My pH experiences are against the norm, I start out trying to keep them at about 6.2 and they keep drifting down to 5.5 and I then bring them back up, then after a few days that stops and the pH remains stable. Not sure what to make of this because as plants use up the nutrients pH should go lower not higher, but I can't argue with what I see.

Both Brooklyn and Gorilla are at exactly the same early flowering stage even though they are very different types of plant and they were started at different times but somehow they are in perfect sync, so I'm wondering if there are hormones being shared in the common reservoir. Just something I'm thinking about.

Purple Gorilla update

Unlike Brookly Sunrise, Purple Gorilla has shot up, I've done two major defoliations then yesterday I went in and chopped out a lot of undergrowth. Nevertheless she doesn't look a lot different. I guess I just sit back and wait now.

Nine Week Update for Purple Gorilla.

Brooklyn at 9 weeks tomorrow and Purple Gorilla 5 days behind.

Both of these are taking a long time to transition. They are both sharing the same reservoir, and Brooklyn Sunrise is the smallest most compact plant I've yet grown at 16 inches, and Purple Gorilla is the tallest at 33 inches and may go bigger. My Sour Crack bean didn't crack, so I'm disappointed not to be able to grow a Mephisto, I planted another Blackberry which is currently bright fluorescent yellow!

I'll be running out of personal supplies soon and these both look like they have a month to go, so it's gonna be tough. There's been lots of defoliation on the Purple Gorilla and a few days ago I had to go in further for some ruthless pruning. I am hoping for this to begin filling out by next week.

Brooklyn Sunrise 9 Week Update

This one is like a bonsai oak tree. Very fragrant honeysuckle scents wafting through the air. She's in my en suite grow room and I woke up to what I thought was the smell of maple syrup pancakes but turned out to be Brooklyn Sunrise. Structure could not be more opposite to Purple Gorilla.
