I have had to curtail my growing for one year. It's been tough. But I am now able to indulge my passion again. I don't have much space so I'm just growing one pot in a walk in wardrobe. This will be an ongoing blog and all grows will be what I term a Shallow Water Culture, as opposed to a DWC. In the first entry I will outline the idea of the SWC and why I think it's a very good way to do hydro especially for a beginner.
In my Shallow Water Culture set up I used the Nutrifield Pro Pot because it's exactly what I would have designed myself. The way I have it set up the main 16L pot is filled with expanded clay and drains out the bottom into another pot that it sits inside. This second pot contain a shallow 2" pool of nutrient (hence the Shallow Water Culture) that drains into a separate 30L reservoir. All it takes is a small 8W pump to top feed a home made ring.
I'll be using 2x QB96 Elite boards and one ChiLed puck with extra blue. To start I will have two beans in one pot. In future grows I may use two pots in this space, or I may just have one single bean in one pot or one bean in two pots. Whatever fits in the space and works with the lights I have.
These days I have settled on putting dry seeds directly into a soaked ezy plug. This seems to be the most reliable method and pops in 3 to 4 days, like clockwork. Plus there's no chance to damage the delicate roots.
Day One was 22nd December.
