Earlier this year we decided to try building our very first grow box and growing for the first time ever; it's been a bumpy road but we're finally done with our test run and we're ready for our first real grow attempt! We aren't aiming for perfect or massive yields, just a good, fun grow that has decent yeilds.
Plan: we are growing Zkittlez autoflower from ILGM. We are starting 3 at a time with a 2 week gap between for a total of 6 plants. The gap is because we have a smaller dry tent setup that won't hold 6 plants if we get a decent yield. We will be planting in 3gal smart pots and using LST to control the hight of plants to accommodate for short box hight and to increase yeilds.
Grow box: The grow box we built is medium sized at 5x4x5' and constructed out of 2x4 and plywood. We painted the interior with a white, anti-mold/mildew paint and then lined the walls and floor with 6mil diamond mylar.
Exhaust: 4", 195cfm exhaust fan with variable speed dial. We ducted the exhaust outside and ran the ducting inside to pull from the ceiling above the light.
Intake: we used the same 195cfm fan with variable speed dial for the air intake. We have it plugged into the same timer outlet as the light so it shuts off during the dark period and functions as a passive intake.
Circulation: we have 2 internal fans for Circulation. The first a small, wall mounted, 9" fan directed at the heat sink and top of the light to help with keeping the light running cool. The second is a 16" oscillating, wall mounted fan under the light.
Humidifier: warm mist humidifier with built in hygrometer.
Light: HLG Scorpion Rspec, quantum board LED light with 60-600 watts variable. It uses Samsung LM301H LEDs and deep red 660nm.
Misc.: timer outlet for light and intake fan, Vivosun indoor/outdoor 3-channel digital thermometer and hygrometer w/ remote sensors in the grow box and dry tent.
For the plants themselves we're using 3gal smart pots on risers with a runoff catch saucer underneath. HF soil mixed with 20% perlite for the medium. Our nutrients are CalMag, trio, and Grower's Ally all natural spider mite control (mix of rosemary, clove, and peppermint oil). We picked up digital PH readers for both the water and the soil and a PH adjusting kit (shouldn't need it with soil but it won't hurt!)
