I've always used 3 gallon fabric pots and squeezed 4 autos into my 3x3 tent.

It gets crowded.
I'm wondering if two 5 gallon plants would accomplish the same volume of growth?

Everybody has their preferences. 5 gallon smart pots have been my favorites for a very long time. My 5 gallons pretty much always out perform my 3 gallon pots. Of course a lot will depend on how experienced you are and how much attention you are able to give the plants and which strain you are growing. My current grow is two 3 gallon pots and one 5. That gets reversed as well. I also run my led lights around the clock.

I dont know That gallon shit [emoji6] but i had 7 AF in different pots a 9ltr..12ltr..20ltr..and 45ltr (all outdoor grow)

And i must say That for a AF minimum 12ltr is recommended..That one gave me 36gr dry bud..in 9ltr it was 12gr dry bud..in 20ltr it was 54gr and in 45ltr 89gr dry but.. ALL OUTDOOR GROW [emoji111]

4L = 1 gallon

Absolutely pot size/volume has an impact on growth rates. I grow outdoor and straight in the ground with virtually no root restriction...yields reflect root base structure definitely....Lowest yield was Colorado Coookies 70g's, Brooklyn Sunrise at 112, Daiquiri LIme at 165 and finally autoultimate at 245 grams dried.

The short answer is yes.... bigger pot = bigger yield however it does not necessarily mean that two 5 gallon pots will yield more than four 3 gallon it's all about finding that sweet spot .

For example you may pull 3 Oz from each 5 gallon so in total 6 Oz.

Or

2 Oz from four 3 gallon pots so a total of 8 Oz.

Hope this helps

That makes logical sense to me. Thanks.

Strain probably has a lot to do with it. I would imagine that some of the faster flowering strains only have time to get so big before they start flowering, and size of pot won't change that, much. Middle of the road to longer running "superauto" strains I would think pot size would impact much more.

Bigger pots definitely make bigger plants and when I've done side by side it seems to take maybe a week longer or maybe its just me

Oh for sure...summers certainly get more sun here in Canada than in Holland! But I have no doubt that if I potted plants in 3 gallon pots the yields would be far smaller!!

Agreed 100% Strain choice makes a huge difference in which pot is the right size. Many of the small strains wont benefit much from a massive pot.

Agree absolutely...this is the biggest factor in needing a bigger pot. Strains like Autoultimate, Daiquiri Lime and super autos can definitely make better use of a more expansive root structure.
