Anslinger called it Marijuana because many people did not know it was the same as hemp which people knew about. Trickster! I also believe that Marijuana is derived from an old Indian word(not native American indian). That being where most of the hashish and tinctures were coming from at that time. Anslinger just associated it with the undesirables that would rape the respectable women with their crazy marijuana!!! In the 20's and 30's I believe the sears catalogue was still selling tinctures made from hashish. And a lot of people didn't know it was the same as what a few years later was to become the scourge of the country!! Thanks Anslinger!!

Linnaeus not only fathered modern botany, he's also responsible for the binomial labeling system. Before that the Latin names for organisms described their physical features, which lead to long and confusing names. When you see a few letters listed after a Latin name there will be a follow up of L (linnaeus) D (david douglas) or several others. These are the men responsible for naming these plants.
