Who Named Cannabis

Cannabis Sativa received its name in 1753,from Carolus Linnaeus (Swedish father of Botany). The word Sativa comes from the latin word for "cultivated".

Cannabis Indica received its name in 1783, from Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (French naturalist) who said the Cannabis Sativa plant found in Europe is different than the Cannabis plant in India and added the name Indica to distinguish between the two.

Cannabis Ruderalis received it's name in 1924, from Russian botanist, Janischewski, who studied wild cannabis in Russia/Asia. Ruderalis is the Russian word for "ruderal plant".

I´m from Sweden but dident know that it was good old Carl who named Cannabis sativa. Good to know TanG!

I came across the same information when researching hollow stems and I also found out quite a bit about where the term marijuana came from.
When I found out that marijuana was a derogatory term for cannabis, that was pushed into the public consciousness by spin doctors to help make it illegal, I chose to stop using the terms marijuana and mj

A lot of people don't know all the facts, that the DuPont family with their petrochemical interests & W.R. Hearst with his timber, pulp & paper mill interests, were the ultimate cause of prohibition. It should've never been lawful to use timber for paper production; it can not compete fairly with hemp fiber, the loss of Oxygen from felling trees & every river with a pulp mill polluted from the DuPont chemicals necessary to produce Hearst's paper, this should've never been. Besides Hearst's hatred for Mexicans, Poncho Villa raided Hearst's Mexican home, which sat upon millions of acres of land stolen from murdered Peons/Peasants, this fueled their desire for prohibition even more. Hearst, Anslinger & their thugs have screwed every American born since prohibition began, & they have the blood of all those people murdered by the cartels on their hands, because it's their lies & efforts which caused the black market to come into being. I'm positive all those men are paying dearly for the damage they've caused on a global scale. Those evil men have, and will continue to be among the world's most hated & notorious scoundrels.

Nice bit of historical digging Arboles .. I have a feeling that Henry Ford was part of that dirty group as well. Having a vested interest in cotton mills and with DuPont making gasoline additives for him, he was right on board. - isn't it funny how these rich people have stayed so rich...
